Session designed to develop the CB and OB confidence in hitting diagonal balls to the non ball side when we have created overloads on the ball side.
Session is developed from basic passing technique which requires the ability to hit a one touch driven or lofted ball from a set up.
SSG requires recognition of hitting a target area from a central area under moderate pressure
Phase of play creates realism in terms of pitch geography with more pressure 5 v 3 nd greater distance for passing
10 v 8 is full size with numbers up for the attacking group to assist in achieving success

PHASE OF PLAY ZONE 2 AND 3
OJECTIVE (HITTING DIAGONAL BALL INTO WEAK SIDE ST OR OVERLAPPING FB)
7 v 7) plus 1 neutral player in black PLAYERS ARE RESTRICTED TO THEIR OWN ZONE WHEN DEFENDING BUT MAY ADVANCE WHEN BALL IS PLAYED INTO NEXT ZONE.
Back 4 players may not retreat outside their zone.
Principles (Coaching points) Keep possession in your own zone 5 v 3, recognize opportunity to hit diagonal ball from your zone into the weakside striker or fullback who are attacking the spaces between and behind the back 4.
Offside is in effect.
Scoring. Player who receives diagonal ball in attacking zone can go to goal. One defender can recover to pressure.

10 v 8 (full field /Offside in effect)
Emphasis is to draw defenders to one side of the field to open space for balls played by the OB or CB into weakside winger or overlapping FB if winger has tucked inside and dragged the opposing FB away from the wide channel.

Play short ball to partner who sets ball for 1 time lofted ball to opposing pair who repeats.
Players switch after every pass.
Basic passing technique session emphasizing short long combination. work specifically on hitting first time diagonal ball into a target player (furthest from the ball).
25:00-40:00 Small sided game
4 v 4 plus 2 Possession game (objective to score in target areas located in the corners of the playing area (see above) (Neutral players in black)
Objective Players possess the ball to create diagonal passing opportunities into the boxes o opposite side of the halfway line. Reds attack zones 3 and 4 , blues attack zones 1 and 2 . Neutral players have 2 touch .
To score, a diagonal ball must be played into the appropriate Zone to a player running into that zone.
Game goes to 5. Games are 5 mins long, 4 total teams each team plays each other team. If you win the game you get 3 points, 1 point for a tie. Rotate neutral players after each game.
