Instructions:

  • Dimensions: 20x20 yard square divided into four equal squares of 10x10; adjust if necessary

  • One red and one yellow player in each square who must stay in their squares. Two neutral green players who can go into any square.

  • Attacking team look to maintain possession for as long as possible.

Progressions:

  • Add point system: X number of passes = 1 pt

  • Add point system: Every time the attacking gets the ball into all four squares without losing the ball = 1 point

  • Defenders are allowed to leave their squares but when they become attackers they must reoccupy their assigned squares.

Attacking Coaching Points:

  • Decision making on the ball is dictated by movement off the ball.

  • Angles of support - Dictated by pressure on ball carrier.

  • Neutral players should support every square. They create numerical advantages.

  • Neutral players should look to create triangular options within squares to eventually move the ball into a new square.

  • Supporting players should create space by being a support option behind their direct opponent and check into spaces in front of their direct opponent when the timing is right.

Defending Coaching Points:

  • Protect central space & deny switch pass

  • Take away positive passes - Force wide and keep play in front

  • Assess distance - Are you close enough to press - If yes, go and hunt the ball

  • If not, protect the space in behind and take away positive passing options
