Activity #1: 10 minutes
Keywords: Body over ball, knee over ball, touch tight (keep ball close to self)
Progressing from the Warm Up set up small goals (gates) using cones (1-2 steps wide) all around the area at different angles. Each player has a ball and must count the number of gates that they dribble through in 30 seconds. (Coach is the timer and must make it exciting…make sure you count down the last 10 seconds). Players attempt to increase that number on future attempts. Players must keep the ball close to them by using the inside, outside and soles of their feet. This environment fosters controlled dribbling, looking around (vision), change of pace (exploding through a gate), change of direction, direction making (if one player is occupying a gate, the other players must look for another open gate).
Questions: How can you keep good balance and control of the ball as you go through a gate? Answer: Bend my knees, stay on my toes and get closer to the ball.

Activity #2: 10 minutes
Keywords: Body over ball, knee over ball, touch tight (keep ball close to self)
Use the same space and set up as in activity #1. Divide the players into pairs with one ball per pair. Two players per ball, pairs move and pass the ball to their partner through the gates. If possible, give random challenges on what task to perform prior to, while going through, or after going through a gate, example, players must roll the ball over prior to dribbling through the gate; players step on, step off, and dribble out when going through a gate; players must use the outside of the foot after the exit the gate. Players must keep the ball close to them by using the inside, outside, laces, and soles of their feet. This environment fosters controlled passing, looking around (vision), change of pace, change of direction, decision making (if one pair is occupying a gate, the other pairs must look for another open gate).
Questions: How can you see the ball coming to you?

Contested Play: 20 minutes
Keywords: Body over ball, knee over ball, touch tight (keep ball close to self)
Coach is “Boss of Balls”; players will play 1v1 when the coach calls out their assigned number, proceeded by the coach playing the ball into space on the field. Allow play to resume from a natural restart if ball goes out (dribble in/pass in); start a new sequence after a goal is scored. To start, allow both goals to be neutral attacking points to encourage more repetitions. Progress the activity by calling out multiple numbers at time to create a 2v2, 3v3, etc. Encourage the use of all four surfaces of the foot: Laces, Outside, Inside, Sole.

Warm Up (10 mins)
Warm Up: 10 minutes

When the coach says a number or yells out a simple math problem (like 1+1), the players must quickly form groups of 2. If the coach yells out “3”, the players form a group of 3, etc. Players must keep the ball close to them by using the inside, outside, laces, and soles of their feet. After they stop the ball and/or change direction, they must explode into space keeping the ball within playing distance (1-3 steps) so they can dribble it again. This type of dynamic activity forces the players to keep their heads up. Encourage the use of all four surfaces of the foot: Laces, Outside, Inside, Sole.
Questions: How do you know where and with whom you might next add up?
