Learning Objectives

Technical Technical
Player willbe able to serve different kinds of crosses to meet the needs of the runners.
Technical Tactical
Player will be able to decide where to make runs into area and how to make them dynamic to create space away from the defender

Crossing Pattern (15 mins)

Players will begin in a simple passing patteren to work the ball wide. Players should be coming off their cone, recieving on the back foot and taking a directional touch. After players pass the ball, they will then make a run into the area to have a chance on goal.

Player 1: Near post run. Needs to be first to post. Reads cues: crosser's head goes down and leg back, player makes a hard full sprint run to the near post area.

Player 2: Far post run. Timing. Player leaves more space a head of them to be able to read the flight of the ball and react.

Player 3: Trail and cut back option. Between the spot and top of the box. Available for the cut back or any rebounds.

Player 4: Crosser.

Work crosses from both sides.

Coaching Points:

-Timing of Runs

-Read the cues from crosser

-Dynamic runs

-Pick out a player/area to place the ball

Phase 3 (20 mins)

Players play 6v6. Teams must connect 5 passes in the middle third before they can release a wide player for a cross. Wide players are neutral and can only cross once they get through the red gates.

Wide players have three touches to cross. They can dribble through the red gates with their three touches or recieve a pass into space as they run through the red gates not passing the "offside line" before the pass is released.

Once the winger is released into the crossing zone, the other players should be making hard dynamic runs into the three areas practiced in the earlier patterns.

Progressions:

-No pass limit

- No wingers, players from each team read the game and move into wide positions to be played in.

CPs:

-Timing of Runs

-Read the cues from crosser

-Dynamic runs

-Pick out a player/area to place the ball

-Retain possession to find the wide player with space
