Description

This practice is aimed to force the player to analyze every movement and have a better understanding of how their body functions. 

My goal as a coach is to create awareness of each player by letting them realize what can they do better to achieve more successful passes and domination of the ball.

Ball control and conditioning drill (10 mins)

Activity Description:

  • Ball domination and Conditioning circuit

Activity Rules & Scoring:

  • The player will start in cone (1).  with the ball, having control of the ball he will move into the red cones in the area (A) where he will dribble in different ways while maintaining good control of the ball. The player will end the last cone and drive the ball to cone (2) where he will then give a pass back to the player in cone (1). Then he will move into the yellow cones in the area (B) and do a conditioning circuit. (Ex-lunges, two feet together jump, frog jumps) 
    • ( If the payer made a bad pass he will be penalized at the end of the drill and forced to go to the penalize cone and do a series of exercises before getting back in line)

Progressions:

  • Divide the team into multiple stations and compete for time or the least amount of mistakes.

Key Coaching Points:

  • Good control of the ball.
  • Eyes up to scan and know where to pass.
  • Intensity.

Pass patterns (15 mins)

Activity Description:

  • 5 Players passing patterns.
  • Player (B) will start with the ball, the player will give a long pass to the player at (A) station, and then run to either (A1) or (A2). Player (A) will give a short pass to the player coming from (B), and Player B will quickly do a one-touch pass back to Player A who will then switch the ball to (D).

  • The purpose of this drill is to help players understand that body position, reception of the ball, and which way they move to it will determine a better pass pattern.

  • Eyes up to read the play, and pick a better position to pass and run to.
  • Better body position to receive and complete successfully a pass.
  • Stay active instead of reactive. (in your toes).

Scanning station (15 mins)

Activity Description:

  • Scanning drill

Activity Rules & Scoring:

  • The player at station A will pass to the player at station B, and simultaneously (B, C, and D) will race to touch the yellow cone behind them. Whoever gets to the cone first will communicate with the player in P station so he can pass the ball to them. Once the ball is passed they will quickly return with one touch back to the passer, which will restart the game passing it back to A. 
  • After 3 consecutive passes, players will switch.

Progressions:

  • Quicker transition from passer to player in the stations. 

Key Coaching Points:

  • Correct body position to receive the ball. 
  • Scan the field before the ball gets to the passer.

5v3 into 3v2 (20 mins)

Activity Description:

  • 5v3 into 3v2  

Activity Rules & Scoring:

  • The Red team's goal is to make 4 consecutive passes. Once this is accomplished a player will drive the ball to the box (B) and then join the attack (3v2).
  • Blue's goal is to steal the ball from red. 
  • 5-minute rotation, forcing every player to play outside of their usual position to grow awareness of the defensive portion of the game.

Progressions:

  • one touch inside the (5v3) box.

Key Coaching Points:

  • 3rd player movement.
  • Pressure as a team and retrieve the ball.
