Focus of this practice is Transitioning from Attack to Defense
Last week we focused on defense to attacking transition, where most of the coaching was done to the team that was defending. This week make sure to focus on the players that are attacking and how they can quickly transition to defened. What angle of run should they take? Should they cover the goal or attack the player? What is the best way to delay the attacker?
Equipment Needed:
- Pennies
- Balls
- Cones
- 4 Small Goals
Coaching Points:
- Win the ball back quickly
- Cut the angle down
- Force the ball wide away from the goal
- Delay the attacker
Desired Actions With the Ball
- Dribble
- Pass
- Drive
- Shoot
Desired Actions without the ball
- Body Shape to pressure
- Movement to cover space
- Rotating in behind partner

Transition from Att > Def (2v4 > 4v4)
- 4 & 5 Will attack Mini Goal 2v4
- When 6,8,8,9 win the ball the red 2/3 are allowed to join in to make it 4v4
- 6,8,8,9 should try to score as quickly as possible
- Game continues until there is a goal or the ball goes out of bounds
- 1 pt if 2v4 scores
- 3 pts if attacking team transitions to win ball back and score
- 1 pt if defending team counters and scores

3 Small Sided Games (35 Mins)
Switch every 10 mins
- 2 Big Goal Game
1 Point for regualr goal
1 Point if ball is recovered after a loss of possesion and scored within a 5 seconds
- 4 Small Goal Game (Place Goals Backwards)
4v2 in each grid
2 players can recover and defend in their defensive half
- Target Game (If you play the target you switch
1 point for switching from one side to the other

1v1 Transition (Att Def) (20 mins)
1v1 Transition from Attack to Defense
- Player will dribble ball out to opponent and stop it in front of them
- After stopping it in front they will curve their run and go around for a receovery run
- Green player will drive and try to score while red tries to win the ball back
- If attacker wins ball back after leaving it, they will counter the other way through the gate
Progression 2v2 recovery
- Green player lines up next to one attacker while other green player is next to goal
- Player dribbles out to attacker that has coverage and stops ball in front of them
- After sopping ball will make recovery run around other cone
- Green player with attacker is allowed to try and win the ball back once red touches the ball
- If attacking team wins ball back can try to counter by dribbling through gate
