Set Up
10 x 15 yard grid
Instructions
- Players will start on each cone, 2 teams. Server will start at balls 6-8 players
- Ball is played out central to two players, player with same colour as server will get to the ball first and will attempt to turn and go to goal. Player who is defending tries to win ball back and get across line between servers.
Progression
-2v1 to goal
-3vs2 to goal
Coaching points
ATTACK
- Focus on dealing with player first then ball.
- Body between player and ball, patience looking for opportunities to turn.
- Feeling for space to be able to turn up field or face up to take player on.
- Using body to shield and turn from player
- Checking shoulder to see if space to turn is there etc. Make competitive teams with most points. Make sure to switch out server.
DEFENDING
- Arms length distance.
- Do not get too close to attacker
- Keep feet moving too tackle

Set up / Organisation:
3 vs 2 in attackers favour. Ball played into striker who holds up sets back to on coming attackers.
Technical Learning objectives:
Attacking
- Striker must check shoulder and decide if to turn or lay the ball off.
- Body between defender and ball.
Defending
Close down, slow down, show down (left/right), body shape side on, use body if needed, recovery run if beaten or team mate beaten.

Instructions
- Players will be working in 2s with 1 ball between players.
- Players will dribble ball around grid with partner shadowing. Incorporate dynamic flexibility into this portion.
- On coach's call players dribbling will stop ball with foot and try to shield the ball away from partner for 5 seconds. This will occur for 10 secs.
- Players will switch roles and other player will begin to dribble. Repeat.
Coaching Points
- Arm should be up to create separation,
- Low centre of gravity knees bent butt down to have strong shielding stance, player between opposition and ball. Check shoulder see where player is most importantly feel where player is.
Progression
Coach will call out various turns, inside outside, step over turn and player will check shoulder feel player and turn with change of speed following. Defender does not try to win ball in this situation. Each player will perform different turns, 2 or 3 turns each.
