Warm-Up (15 mins)

Dynamic Warm-up: Players perform sport specific movements to prepare the body for activity (increase blood flow and muscle temperature).

Passing Lines: Players pass / receive ball in groups of 4/5. - Follow pass.

1) Receiving and pass with inside of same foot (Two touch).

2) Receive and pass with opposite foot. (Two touch).

3) Receive with inside, touch with outside & pass (all with same foot -3 touches)

4) Receive - roll across + pass.

Receiving / Turning:

A: Player creates angle, receives on back foot & passes (next player repeates).

B: Player creates angle, perform turn & passes (next player repeates).

1v1 / Ball Mastery: Players dribble towards each other, perform move (to right), dribble / take-over with next player in line. (4/5 times - then perform action to left).

1) Double touch - Opposite feet (inside / inside).

2) Double touch - Same foot (inside / outside).

3) Roll over (using sole of foot).

4) Scissors.

IA. Vertical Half Space (20 mins)

Vertical Half Space Game 9v9 / 7v7

3 x 7 minutes: 50 x 70 / 50 x 40

Purpose: The half space offers more options than the flank with the benefit of more time and space than the central zones

Condition: Defending team has to be over in 3 of 5 zones, if not they lose a point.

*this does not apply to final third

Block 1: Defensive Shape (compact)

Block 2: Defensive Shape (communication)

Block 3: Awareness & Team Shape Half space / Weakside

Block 4: Disguise / attract pressure

Optional Conditions:

6v6 + 2: one touch in half space.

Progression III.:

Free play – No conditions

Goal scored from the half space = 2 points

Assist from the half space = 2 points

Assist from half space in 1 touch = 3 points

Half space to half space resulting in goal = 3 points

All other goals = 1 point

If no goalies: 1 touch finish, inside 18.

Coaching Points: Anticipating play; Reading the game; Runs/movement off of the ball to offer support to player receiving the ball (specifically in the half space zones); Early movement; Decision making on the ball; Properly weighted passes (no side spin); Well-timed passes; High Tempo; Quick circulation of the ball; Pass and Move – We want to coach the players to move immediately after the pass is played.

FIELD DIMENSIONS: 24x30 yards - modify to 15 x 20.

TOTAL PLAYERS: 10 (5v5)

Team formation: 2-1-2

TIME: 18 Minutes. 5-6 Blocks: 2 minutes / 1 minute  

ORGANIZATION & CONDITIONS: 

Defending team must be in 2 of the 3 zones.

Must play through central cones

Block 1: Defensive Shape (compact & communication)

Block 2: Attacking Shape

Block 3: Half space / Weakside

Block 4: Disguise / attract pressure

Guided Questions:   

1. What should your shape look like? (Defensively / Offensively)

2. Where is the space to exploit?

3. How can you attack weakside more effectively? (Disguise / attract pressure in half space zone)
