Organisation - See diagram for set up.
- Transfer game, 3 teams. Play begins with a team in each end zone & a defensive team in the middle zone.
-Play starts with the coach playing a ball into one of the end zones, the team in possession will then look to transfer the ball whenever the feel they have the opportunity too.
-When transferring the ball this must be done via a player from the opposite end, this player will drop into the middle zone to receive the ball & then complete the transfer into their end.
-One defender will go out to press the ball while the team mates attempt to prevent the transfer by making it difficult for the player that drops into the middle third.
-If the defending team win possession they must score in one of the goals, if they score they then leave the middle third.
Progressions -
- add another defender
- teams score points for successful transfers
- Team in possession attempting to transfer the ball can send a player into the middle third to help with transfer
- Introduce pass limit before teams can transfer
Challenges -
- Cycle the ball quickly across your third, use all areas of the third (think triangles) (move defensive team)
- Players coming into middle third to recieve can we get inbetween defenders? Can we recieve on the half turn & play through?
- Lots of rotation from end to middle third, If you dont get it dont block up spaces > get a team mate to rotate, keep looking for those spaces
- If a player drops into recieve bounce the ball off him to keep the game moving
Learning Objectives Team – Cycle the ball quickly, exploit spaces in-between & around defenders.
Learning Objectives Individual – Develop understanding of movement & rotation, when/where/how/why do me move or rotate?
Technical - Passing & receiving skills, body shape
Tactical - movement, awareness of space, when & where to drop into middle zone
Physical - Conditioning
Social - trust team mates, communication
Psychological - develop good habits.
