Description

Venue: SOP

Team: u13 Girls Storm

Players: 10 total

SO: If Futsal were a living, breathing entity - I'd be willing to bet my house that the life-blood coursing through it's veins would be positional rotation and the maintenance of team shape. It's positional rotation, movement and passing whilst maintaining team shape which enables a team to penetrate opposition lines and advance up the pitch through the creation of angled passing options; and without it, you're dead in the water. Football and Futsal are games which are largely made up of good habits, and as such, it's my business to develop habits that I believe will hold my players in good stead for the future. Moving immediately after we release the ball must be natural, transitioning between 4 key positional roles (fixo, r.wing, l.wing, pivot) must be seamless, and the art of pushing, pulling and stretching the opposition must be as instinctive as it is essential. That, is the intention of our session this morning.

Warm-up: A (5 mins)

Frame

Passing sequence w/ butterfly rotation.

Explanation - butterfly rotation

A passes to C and moves to B / B moves to A and C passes to B / C moves to D / D moves to C and the sequence is repeated as B passes to D.

Progression

1. rotation with breakout to score - same sequence as above except, teams now have a trigger to break FWD e.g. until B/D drops deep and invites a driven pass from A/C, keep rotating and passing - team decides when to ATK. Once breakout is triggered, team have 6 seconds to finish.

Coaching Points

+ breakout: play must be direct, loud and in your face.

+ communication, information, eye contact.

+ driven passes with immediate movement after release.

Explanation - diagonal rotation

Progression

1. rotation with breakout to score - same sequence as above except, teams now have a trigger to break FWD e.g. until one player pulls wide to create space for forward runs from deep; keep rotating and passing - team decides when to ATK. Once breakout is triggered, team have 6 seconds to finish.

Coaching Points

+ breakout: play must be direct, loud and in your face.

Functional Training: A (15 mins)

Frame

3v2 to end zone (high repetition of numbers-up problem solving).

If successful, turn and go again 3v2 to opposite end zone. white players attempt to regain possession and carry the ball into the end zone they are facing.

Progression

1. 4v3 to end zone - high repetition of numbers-up problem solving in a diamond formation with emphasis on positional rotation to stretch the opposition and create space (see next diagram **)

Coaching Points

+ movement (rotation) to receive and create traingle passing options.

+ body shape to receive - play FWD/ BWD.

+ angles, distances and combinations to penetrate effectively.

+ when and where it's best to advance FWD or move inside.

+ understand slow and quick play through the area.

FT: Progression (15 mins)

Frame

4v3 to goal (high repetition of numbers-up problem solving with end product). As a 4, players are challenged to maintain diamond shape whilst passing and rotating positions in an opposed numbers-up situation. The team decides when / where to break opposition lines and attack with pace.

Explanation

2-3 minute rounds | blue team earn 1 goal any time they successfully score past the opposition. Kick-ins from sideline if ball leaves play. White players attempt to regain possession and carry the ball into the end zone; doing so will trigger a switch of team roles. As a 4, players are now challenged to rotate positions (butterfly/diagonal/otherwise) whilst maintaining diamond shape.

Coaching Points

+ positions are not fixed - they rotate.

+ rotation, movement and passing whilst maintaining team shape will allow the team to penetrate opposition lines and advance up the pitch through creating of angled passing options.

+ avoid setting up on the same horizontal and vertical lines.

+ quality, weight and decision of pass (penetrate, play around or through).

+ timing of movements and rotation - cues and triggers to move (where/when).

+ breakout: play must be direct, loud and in your face.

+ communication, information, eye contact.

+ driven passes with immediate movement after release.
