Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
Zone A - Transitional 1v1 (progression 2v2) using 2 GKs and remainder of outfield players, once 9 are active in Zone B.
Practice starts with a red player dribbling in and shooting before they reach the cones. Having taken a shot, blue can start to dribble in, the red player must sprint and take up a defensive position against the blue attacker. Once blue shoots or is dispossessed, next red plays in and the blue player sprints across to defend
Progress to 2v2 in exactly the same way as above.
Zone B - Transitional Rondo with 2 GKs, 9 outfield players. Team in possession around the outside with 1 player v 4 defenders inside the zone. GKs play the end positions (1&2) for receiving to feet and distribution practice. Aim is to pass the ball from player 1 to 2 and vice versa. A point is scored for a successful transfer from one end to the other and the team stays in possession. If the four defenders gain possession, they must pass to player 1 or 2 to break out of the zone and swap to the outside positions. That team then enters the zone as the defending team.
Progress by limiting the number of touches. Time limits to play in. Not allow passes between 2 players on the same side, along the outside.
Rotate 9 outfield players and GKs between activities after 15 to 20 mins.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
Zone A. Can you shoot within a time limit. Can you engage the attacker before they cross half way.
Zone B. Players are either inside the zone or outside, they cannot cross boundaries.
Players at the side can pass to each other but to score, the 1 player in the zone must touch the ball at some point.

Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
SSG. 2 separate half pitch games. One team plays out from goal looking to pass into a safe zone (between blue and red line in centre pitch). This zone could contain a spare GK or a team mate running into the zone. That team then turns and attacks the goal. When a team wins possession, they must first move the ball into the safe zone, before attacking. If a team scores, they stay in possession, receiving from the GK.

Technical (5 mins)
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):
Very quick lead into the skill practice.
Zone A, dribble in through cones into the shooting zone, focus on recovery run after shot, quick move towards the middle and then sprint to back of line.
Zone B, Three teams have a ball each and pass from one side of zone to other, using middle players (red and blue keep a player in each zone) yellow can roam anywhere. Focus on scanning and awareness of where other players are to avoid collisions and losing the ball. If lost, get it back under control quickly.
As defensive work is the focus of the session, keep this technical very brief and use as a tool to get the general movement and organisation for the Skill section.
