Specific Practice - Defending the Lines.
- Area - width of the pitch and 3/4 length, tapered off to cut outfullback/wingers roles.70x50 = pitch density of 194m2 per player.
- Based off how my team sets up in a (1)4-2-3-1 with shown as a (1)4-2-1-1 (defending team - blues) vs (1)4-3-3 shown as a (1)2-3-3 (attacking team - red).
- Aim is to defend the lines by stopping the attacking No.10 get on the ball.
- Game starts from Red GK who plays to either CB to make playlive, Reds look to score, Blues look to defend the lines and preventchances- If Blue regain the ball they look to push over the half way line to have a unopposed shot at goal.
- Target - goal scored by the reds is 1 point - a goal scored by breaking lines using the 10 is 3 points - a goal score by the blues is 2 points.
- Challenge- In Possession (Reds) Can you get the 10 on the ball, a goal which is scored or assisted by the 10 is worth 3 goals- Out of possession (Blue) - Can we stay narrow and compact forcing play wide and not let the 10 get on the ball - Don't let the N10 play forward or face forward on the ball.
- Condition- Ball starts from Red GK on restart- On a regain Blue to break into opposition half to earn a unopposed shot at goal.
- Coaching points- Defend central areas - midfield to be compact and narrow with distances between, deny any space to find the 10, blue 10 can drop in to create a narrow 3 in midfield - Force play wide - Screen passes to the 10 in the centre (blue 10 can act as the screen) - can a defensive player always mark the 10, if between the lines CDM does it.- Space between the defence and midfield to be very small (why? deny space for the N10 to receive between the lines)- GK positioning between 6 yard and pen spot when defence is high to be prepared to sweep up any balls in behind.
