FB recovery runs (20 mins)

Set Up

LB and RB play a through ball into the paths of the winger. A soon as they make the pass, they then sprint back to try and stop the cross. Wingers cannot cross the ball until they pass through the coned gate. 2v2 in the 18 yard box. LB/RB then become the wingers, wingers join waiting players, and next round starts. Rotate the 2v2 players every few rounds.

Coaching Points

  • Don't follow the ball after the pass, block the running path.
  • Jockey the winger, wait for mistake
  • Patience
  • Don't have to win the ball, just stop the cross.
Problems/Solutions

Problem - Player is struggling to stop the cross. Solution - anticipate the running path, don't follow the player.
Problem - Winger still gets the cross in, despite getting into position. Solution - Position your body in a area that limits the chance of a cross, block the path between the winger and strikers.
