Session is focussed on the topic syllabus of passing and receiving, this weeks section is on passing into space. Using a basic passing and receiving techincal phase allows the players to slowly get into the session working on the mechanics and movements before going into the skill section. Basic motor movements of passing the ball and receiving on the move then get taken into the later sections. Giving the players more familarity and reptitions using simple drills to begin with. Physical demand is also low compared to what is required much more later in the skill and small-sided game section. Using a quick tempo repetition game to play the ball into space behind a defender works well for the skill section and is an easy transition in from the techincal side. Starting with a 2v1 allows the attacking side to understand the mechanics of movement off the ball and playing the ball into space. After a session of this type of work and repetition, you can then incorporate it into the small-sided game. Splitting the field into thirds also allows the players to understand terminology and areas of the pitch used in the game. Combining what they have learned in the controlled enviornment earlier, can they bring that into a game situation. Playing the ball into the space behind the defenders is an important part of the game and the more familiar they can get with it over playing time the better.
