1. After the ball is deflected, the US forward attempts to pass it to the player by the keeper.
2. China deflects the ball and it is loose.
3. Holliday, US midfielder, runs in uncovered for the shot on goal. Possible that the China GK's vision was blocked by the players standing in front of her.
The goal was one of luck, how the ball bounced around, however, China packed the box as you can see and left the midfielders vulnerable. There is either too much space between the back line of players and the rest of the team OR all the players are back in the box with no one available for a cleared ball.

Hope Solo was substituted at half and Loiden came into the game as goal keeper. China put a little more pressure on the US during the second half, however, they don't get too many chances. This screen shows how the US recovers when China tries to attack. The midfielders and back line keep shape really well and cover space. They also force China to make errors such as missed passes and sending balls out of bounds. During this particular play, the US player and the passed ball arrive at the same time and the US player blocks the shot out of bounds.

China makes a run for the goal, but the US does a great job shutting their chance down. The defense covers the area and the left defender cuts off China's dribble and prevents a shot from being taken.

Wambach and Rapinoe come enter the game for Press and Holliday in the second half. As soon as these two players enter the game there is more energy. Rapinoe seems to be around every scoring oppportunity, moving from the left side to right side frequently. Wambach has some scoring chances in the middle. During this particular play, Leroux sends the ball into the box to Wambach for a header. The ball is perfectly placed, however, China's goal keeper saves it.

China starts to move the ball around more successfully during the second half. They still are combining one or two short balls with a long ball up the sidelines. This is their only means of offense for most of the game. Because the US is playing four flat in the back, it is quite easy for them to shift, cover, and balance on defense. In this particular diagram, China tries to build from the back by switching the ball and sending a long ball up the other side. US shuts this down by forcing the Chinese player to the sideline.
