Option 1 - CHAIN SWITCH

Attacking Team look to get the ball from one side of the pitch to the other as quickly as possible via a chain switch, playing in front of Defensive low block.

I.e LWB plays ball inside to CM who then proceeds to switch ball to opposite RWB.

No. 10 Has to occupy DCM to ensure he cannot put pressure on CM when he receives ball.

2 CFs should stay High and wide to ensure defensive fullbacks cannot press Attacking WB on 1st touch.

1. If play is switched quickly, Wingback and CF can get a 2 v 1 vs fullback due to Defensive LCM being attracted to ball by RCM in central area.

2. IF CB follows CF into wide area and FB can press WB, Can WB put ball into space behind CB for opposite CF to exploit?

Option 2 – DIRECT SWITCH

Attacking team look to play direct ball in behind fullback to get a cross from by-line or a deep cross from fullback from 2 v 1.

Combinations on one side of pitch to create an ‘OUT’ on the opposite side. The longer the ball is on one side the more it will attract defensive team to get organised and compact.

Attacking players need to be comfortable under pressure and read when it is on to play a direct switch.

LWB the ‘OUT’ should stay Disciplined High and wide and not creep in to support

RWB, RCM, LCM, No.10 and CF Should combine, offer support in overloading one side to be able to create a direct switch in to opposite Wingback, through the LCM or RCM via a 1st time Switch pass.

WHAT IF

When attacking team get ball central and chain switch or direct switch is not available due to pressure from defensive team. Attacking team should look to play through centre of pitch.

If defensive team look to deal with attacking switch by staying expansive with players already in wide positions. Can attacking team play through defensive units to score.

Only 1 touch in zone 14, look to use bounce pass to retain possession and manipulate defenders quicker. Can we pass forward on transition and use limited touches in central zone to link/switch play to create overloads in wide areas.

1.

If defense is stretched leaving space to attack centrally.

No.10 should look to manipulate DCM out of Zone 14 to create passing channel where No.9 should look to drop in and receive to feet.

Once No.9 drop ins, wingback on same side should look to exploit space in behind CB.

CF to play around corner, into forward run behind FB.

OR

2.

If defense is stretched leaving space to attack centrally.

No.10 should look to manipulate DCM out of Zone 14 to create passing channel where No.9 should look to drop in and receive to feet.

Once No.9 drop ins, Wingback on same side should look to exploit space in behind CB.

HOWEVER, if pass isnt on. CF should look to bounce back to LCM.

Can CM then look to penetrate using NO.10 and opposite CF.

CF who came short should look to quickly get into space that CB has created by following him deep. It is then up to CF or No.10 to feed a pass into this space and create a goalscoring opportunity.

1.

LWB plays into CF if CB doesn't apply pressure, can No.9 turn and look to run at CB in 1 v 1.

Either go for goal or if pushed wide, CF should look to cross to opposite CF.

2.

If CB does apply pressure and comes out of Back 4. Use a bounce pass to create a 2v1 with no.10 which allows a split pass to be made through final 1/3 and into path of opposite CFs run.

1 touch passing.

1 touch shot.

Where possible will lead to more success of this chance being created and defense not having time to organise.
