Warm Up: Ball Control (5 mins)

Preparation:

- Players dribble in one half of gym playing court

Instructions:

Coach demonstrates a few skills with the ball and then players practice the skill for 5 minutes.

G: 3 v 3 Line Game (15 mins)

Setup:

-- Pinnies for each team.

-- Cones to separate 2 playing areas

Instruction:

-- Play 2v2 or 3v3.

-- Must dribble and stop the ball on the line or cross the line with ball under control to score a goal.

-- Play for 3 minutes then rotate teams for competition.

-- Teams to count score. Top 2 teams compete at the end. Bottom 2 teams compete.

Emphasis:

-- Head up dribbling

-- Communication - verbal and non-verbal

-- Constant movement into space

-- Spread defenders out

P -- Limit touches to 4 per person and if touches are higher than 4, ball cannot be touched again by the same player.

A: Ball Control (15 mins)

Setup:

- 8 cones with 4 cones in the centre of the field marked out as a box. Remaining 4 cones as a wider box, equidistant from centre cones.

- Each player with a ball standing behind the cones

Instruction:

- Players will dribble toward centre cones and when close to centre cones will execute the taught movement/skill and dribble back with speed and control

- Moves to practice: sole roles forward, sole roles backward, inside alternating foot dribble, cuts, turns, pull backs, speed dribbling, drag and push

Emphasis:

- Tight touches when dribbling, body over ball, knees and back slightly bent, with arms slightly bent

- As much speed as possible without losing ball control.

- Head up as much as possible.

Progression:

Have a competition to see which team can finish first. Each player must complete each movement once.

G: SSG Dribble to Overload (20 mins)

Setup:

- Pinnies for one team

- 2 goals on both ends closer to corners and a ball sitting on cone on each end situated between goals

- 1v5 in each end to start

Instruction:

- Players can pass ball over the centre line to receiving player who can dribble through gates to score for 1 point. Player gets 5 points by dribbling ball into stationary ball on cone and knocking it off the cone.

- Players cannot pass over centre line without dribbling a ball over. If player dribbles over to add another attacker, then may not cross back into own half without dribbling a ball back over again.

- If a goal is scored, start over again.
