Pattern #2 - Red lines
Progressions:
Add defender in the middle zone, have to scan and find open man!
Coaching points:
- Zipped passes on the floor (pace)
- Passes to lead player (back foot)
- No bouncing passes (middle of the ball, step through it)
- Looking behind you to turn (middle players) SCAN SCAN SCAN)
- Get rid of the ball in 3 seconds or less

4v4+3 - Adjust to 3v3+3 based on numbers (17 total)
Object of the game is to connect to the far target player for 1 point. Focus on the defensive players first to deny the through pass.
Play 3x5' - 18' total
Coaching points:
- Pressure and cover roles
- Communicate! What's your job? (including GK)
- Angle of approach to force the correct way (outside into a 1v1, inside to cover)
- Pick your moments to press! (bad touch, head down, back to you, pass backwards)
- If not pressing, cut passing/shooting lanes
- DON'T GET SPLIT
- How can you cover a man and a split?
- Can you invite the team in possession to play somewhere and then press? (introduce outside press)

8v6 functional training/End scrimmage
Can also use a big goal in central channel of the defending 6.
If defending 6 can win the ball in the wide channels and it leads to a goal, worth 3 points. All other goals are worth 1 point.
Coaching points:
- Be patient! wait for the cues to press
- Cut passing lanes first, then close down
- Cover a man and a space
- Move together! Leave the weak side players. You have time to get there if they switch
- Take away their midfield 3. Force them to play around the backline/on the flanks. If MF drops into a wide channel, perfect, compact the space
