Drill

Organisation/Conditions

Whites play out in a 141 and Reds press with a 231.

Half pitch practise.

Ball played from Red CDM into GK. Position on pitch is when GK receives ball.Reds are compact and narrow. As soon as GK plays ball out Reds switch on and press.

Targets/Challenges

Goals in central (#10) and wide (#7 and #11) areas mark white players/targets. Also poles in middle of pitch as target for whites. One point every time they play into/thriugh target.

Reds must press and have 10 seconds maximum to score while overload is on and whites are spread out..

Key Points

(Triggers and cues. When and when not to press). MUST PRESS TOGETHER/AS A UNIT.

Ball goes into RCB - Red 9 archs his run to stop ball being played back across goal.

Red 11 presses RB to stop ball being played down line. Holds his run until ball gets played (as it's travelling or when it's obvious that defender is going to play ball in that direction)

Red 6/8 to screen target goals on half way line.

Red 10 to mark White CDM closely. Can he anticipate and win it?

Red 7 tucks in and if Red 10 gets pulled further across Red 7 will watch central target.Red 7 also watches switch - he can eithe rintercept or be in a good position to stop advance down left side.

When managing Whites ensure they play out in different ways to cause Reds more problems.

Red 7 archs his run to stop ball being played down line

Red 6 anticipates where ball is going but main aim is to stop ball going down line.

Drill 3

Key Factors (if 11 presses not 9)

Red 9 hasn't switched on therefore Red 11 presses but shows him outside forcing RB to play it wide.

Red 8 stops ball being played further forward down right hand side.

If whie CM moves to suppoer Red 10 must go with him.

Red 7 dhuffles across to watch central target

Red 9 stays high in case place breaks down and he is available. Also is aware of switch.

If GK goes long straight to forward targets Red 6 and 8 to be aware!
