Description

What: Individual skills with ball 1v1s shielding the ball - to successfully protect the ball by shielding it from defenders using the body then turning with the ball in another direction.

Who: 1st Attacker -Player with the ball trying to keep possession of the ball  , 1st defender- Player applying pressure and trying to steal the ball

Where: Any area of the field mainly in the middle third.

When: When a player recognizes the pressure from the defender and doesn't feel comfortable passing; instead of kicking the ball anywhere; they can protect the ball and turn with the ball  then pass it to a teammate

Why: To further give them another tool to help them get forward, connect passes, and score

Battle Royal Warmup (5 mins)

Organization: Intro Warm- up (5 mins)

  • 30x30 
  • cones 
  • soccer balls

Instructions:

  • 2 players per ball 
  • Players start passing the ball back to each other, once coach calls out Battle Royale
  • The player without the ball will have to steal the ball - 1 point 
  • If the player protects the ball and does not get it taken away - 2 points
  • 30 second intervals 

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Can we put our body in the way of the ball? 
  • Can we protect the ball against the defender?
  • If we lose the ball can we get it back?




Regressions/Progressions:

  • R- Add an attacker 2v1s
  • P- Add a defender  1v2s

Keep The Ball (10 mins)

Organization: Main Activity (!0mins)

  • 30x30 
  • soccer balls 
  • 4-6 soccer pugs
  • cones

Instructions:

  • Attackers dribble the ball around the square shielding the ball. 
  • Defenders try tosteal the ball, after  they steal the ball they have to score on a goal. 
  • 1 min intervals  switch defenders and attackers 
  • Attackers get points for dribbling using individual technical skills to avoid defenders but extra points if they use there body to shield the ball.
  • Defenders get points for how many times they steal a ball and score


Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Can we put on body in the way of the ball and defender?
  • Can we protect the ball against the defender?
  • If we lose the ball can we get it back?
  • Can we not just kick it, but steal the ball and take a big touchtowards a goal?
  • Can we keep possession of the ball by protecting the ball?

  •  R- Less Defenders 
  •  R- More Goals
  • P- More Defenders
  • P- Less Goals

1v1 Directional with run

1v1 attacking directionally 

The Coach will yell "Ball" - Then the first player in each line will make a run around the back of the goal they defend and then enter the field. The player will try to win the ball first and then score in the opponent's goal. 

Player games to 5 goals. Best 2/3 games wins
