3rd Fundamental (Fun): Red Light Green Light

General Overview:

The soccer-adapted version of "Red Light, Green Light" is a fun and energetic game designed to improve players' focus, reaction time, and ball control under varying commands. By incorporating trick commands like "Yellow Light" and "Headlight," the game challenges players to listen carefully and respond accurately to instructions. This version of the game not only enhances physical agility and dribbling skills but also sharpens mental focus and concentration.

Organization

Setting Up:

  • Designate a start line and a finish line across the field, creating a sizable distance for players to cover.
  • All players start at the starting line.
  • The coach, acting as the signal caller, stands at the finish line facing away from the players.
  • The objective for the players is to get all the way up and tag cross the finish line where the coach is standing.

Commands:

Green Light: Players move forward towards the finish line.

Red Light: Players must stop immediately. Moving players must return to the start line.

Yellow Light: Functions as a trick command, equivalent to Red Light. Players who move must return to the start.

Headlight: Players have 2 seconds to squat down and then stand up again, continuing their movement if "Green Light" is still active.

Round One (No Ball): Conduct the first round without soccer balls to allow players to familiarize themselves with the commands and game dynamics.

Round Two (With Ball): Introduce soccer balls for each player to dribble while responding to the commands. This addition emphasizes ball control while maintaining focus on the game's rules.

Gameplay Duration: Each round should last approximately 3-4 minutes, with short breaks in between to discuss strategies and improvements.

Variation:

  • Can add coloured cones on the finish line that player must attempt to collect
  • Once a player touches a cone the coach becomes alive and while all other players freeze the player with the cone tries to return the cone to the base without being tagged by the coach
  • Can also add different points for different coloured cones (For example, above the red cones would be worth 1 and the blue cones could be worth 1)
  • Players compete to see the total points they can get
