Description

Team Function: Attacking

Training load: Organizational (40%)

Number of players: 18players total. 17 outfield players, 1 GK

Number of activities: 3 (warm up, structured rondo, main activity)

Principles:

CREATE ATTACKING SHAPE
POSITION TO STRETCH OPPONENT AND CREATE SPACE

  • Create Attacking Shape Create appropriate height, width, depth
  • Create optimal attacking distances between players

PROVIDE OPTIONS TO PLAY FORWARD
(RE-)POSITION TO CREATE ADVANTAGE AND RECEIVE THE BALL

  • Provide vertical or diagonal passing options
  • Create overload centrally or wide
  • Move or lose opponent when marked
  • Make runs behind the defensive line
  • Give immediate support to teammate under pressure

BREAK LINES TO ADVANCE ATTACK
PROGRESS THE BALL FORWARD AND ELIMINATE OPPONENT(S)

  • Drive with the ball to exploit space
  • Engage opponent: create 1v1 or 2v1
  • Find a free player between or behind the lines
  • Switch play: pass the ball to opponents’ weak zone

5 W's

What:

Attacking in the defensive 1/3

Where:

Defensive third, from wide areas
When:

We are in organized build up and the opposition has forced us to play the ball wide to our 2 & 3.
Who:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 (10)
Why:

4/5 do not engage opp 9/10 to create space between lines, distance of pass too great compared to distance of pressure.

2/3 do not take positions to challenge the distance of presssure

6/8 arrive too early with body shaped back into pressure

7/11 are in the same vertical line as 2/3

Session Duration: 65mins
