Menu of Decision's while in Possession

The Menu of Decision in Possession

1.First – look to shoot if you are inside the 18 or if you are outside 18 and you have a good shot

2.Second – look to get yourself in off dribble or combine to get yourself in or look to get someone else in with a final pass

3.Third – look to change the point directly or go forward

4.Fourth – look to go wide

5.Fifth – look to play it square or back as a last resort to keep possession.

1-3-5-2 Offensive Responsibilities

1-3-5-2 Offensive Responsibilities for Each Position

GK - very composed when playing from the back, always in a position of support in case backs need an outlet.

CB - also a composed player who's always in a position of support to HM and OB's. When building from the back, CB needs to act as a HM.

RB/LB - these players are critical if we are to have any success in building from the back. Must be able to make quick decision on the ball and be composed under pressure.

RM/LM - these players are our outlets. They can control the tempo of the game. Will need to be good decision makers as to when to go forward by dribbling into space or passes into the streaking forwards, but will also need to know when to step on the ball and play into HM or OB's to keep possession if nothing forward is on.

HM - always needs to be in a position of support with all players on the field. This player needs to composed on the ball and understand proper spacing in relation to her teammates and the ball. Must also have a good range of passing to play forward and break the lines or switching the field.

AMs - these two players must love the ball and should be always trying to find gaps and space 'between the lines'. The more these two players can turn and face the opposition back line, the more opportunities they will help our team to create goal scoring chances.. They also can NEVER be on the same line horizontally or vertically. They need to always play at different angles from one another.

FWs: These two forwards need to have great mobiltiy. Great willingness to make runs in behind and connect with each.. Must be selfless to make runs even if they know they won't get the ball. Must be aggressive when they have the ball to go straight to goal. Must have good communication and understanding with other forward to combine and play off of them. They are also encouraged to interchange positions in the game. These two forwards are connected and always looking to get in behind defenses with their runs or turning and facing the opposition back line.

Playing from the Back

Playing from the Back:

What are we trying to do?

Our outlets in this system are the Outside Mids. They are our triggers for going forward.

I. RB&LB open up to receive ball from the keeper

II. CB opens up to one side with hips open to possible get the ball from GK if pass is on.

III. HM Lines up on other post to utilize space.

IV. AMs need to stay high and not crowd the space of CB and HM when playing out of the back.

V. Outside mids need to be on the touchline with hips open trying to create space to get on the ball. These players need to be very composed on the ball and have a great work rate to get up and down both offensively and defensively.

VI. Forwards need to stay high and get in passing lanes. If ball gets to outside mid, one of the forwards need to make a run down the line to stretch the defense and to try and get in behind.

Pattern of Play

Pattern Play:

Decision making process when OM gets the ball

1. Look to play forward - play FW down the line into space

2. Play ball into FW who checks toward the ball or one of AM, who then can look to switch it.

3. Drop it back to HM who then looks to switch it to LM or AM who then can switch it to LM.

4. Drop it back to OB, who then looks to switch it.
