The centre backs (CB) should try and move together as a unit keeping the same distances between them as much as possible. When we clear the ball up the pitch the ball they should move up towards half way in a line. This helps us put pressure on the other team and also allow us to catch players offside.

If the ball is in the centre of the pitch and the central CB goes towards the ball, the left and right sided defender should move around so that they are closer together.

If the CBs need to move wide, they move together as a close group.
In the example, the right wing back is up the field the ball is behind them:
- First the right centre back (RCB) moves across to put pressure on the ball
- The Centre Back (CB) moves across to support
- The Left Centre Back (LCB) moves across to cover the space

The role of Wing Backs is to support in attack and defense. They should try and stay wide on the pitch, carry the ball forward and get crosses into the penalty box.
However when the opposition have the ball they have to get back quickly to help defend.

The defensive midfielder is responsible for protecting the defense and they should mainly cover the shaded area. When our centre backs have the ball, they are available for a pass and help us play forward. When we have the ball at the opponents end of the pitch, they should be available to receive a pass played backward to help create space and options.

The Midfielders are responsible for getting into both penalty area. When we attack they can play balls through to the forwards and get shots on goal. When we defend they must get back and help win the ball back.

The forwards should try and stay within the width of the penalty area. This way when the can the ball they are in front of goal.
We want the forwards to stay high up the field against the last defenders as this helps create space and the option for us to play passes behind the defense for them to run on to.

When we are defending, one should always stay right on the half way line with the other a little closer to our goal

This is a 3-5-2 formation. It is called this because:
Formations are always named in this way. So a 4-4-2 formation would have 4 defenders, 4 midfielders and 2 attackers.
