First Half Team Performance

First Half Positives: 

  • Pivoting pressure in defense and in the attacking third. 

First Half Challenges:

  • Germany used the center back to attract the Pressure and use the wide outside backs to penetrate the half spaces (switched to back 3) 
  • Identified wide spaces in the attacking 3rd 
  • Overloaded 1 Side of the pitch and crested space on opposite side 

Key Moments: Positives 

The penalty came from a fully shifted back line, and an unaware winger in the defensive half

Second Half Team Performance

Second Half Positives:

  • Second half the Japanese went to 3 at the back and in the attacking half, looking to pressure the ball and the two closest outlets. As well as covering the midfield options.

Second Half Challenges:

  • Musiala was a creative dribbler and was able to break the lines and attack the goal efficiently. .

Key Moments:  Positive 

  • First goal in the 75th minute came from sustained pressure and crashing of the box. A similar chance came a few minutes previously.
