Objective of attacking in 1-1-2-1 versus a 1-1-2-1 - Essentially, everyone is attacking a specific part of the field which allows for the ball to move around the field very easily. However, and because the opposition are defending in a 1-3-1 formation, it means they can defend against you fairly easily. To succeed, fast passing connected to fast support in spaces to unbalance the opposition will result in goal scoring opportunities.

Objective of defending in 1-1-2-1 versus 1-1-2-1 - Allows for easy identification of man to man defending as every player has an opponent to defend against. To deny the opponent from making fast passes and fast supporting actions into spaces you will have to remain compact centrally, shift as a compact unit when the ball moves out wide to make sure their only free pass is to the other side of the court.
