Passing Pattern
Duration: 10 minute pattern
Workload: Low to Medium 2 set of 3 min work 2 min rest)
Dimensions 10yard width by 25 yard Length
Objective: To introduce different range of passes
Coaching Points:
1. First touch
2. Weight of pass
3. Type of pass
4. Technique passing ball with different parts of foot
Examples
Player A passes to Player B and Player D passes to Player C at the same time
Player B passes back to Player A and Player C passes Back to Player D
Player A and D pass longer passes to the player behind A or D.
Repeat
Types of passes
short passes with left foot or right foot
Long passes on the floor or in the air Left foot or right foot

Duration 15-20 minutes W/R 5 minutes per pattern (4-minute work 1-minute rest)
Dimensions: Half Field
Objective: To help goalkeeper start buildout from goalkick
Gk will rotate patterns left and right sides
Coaching Point:
1. Set Up
2. Cues to play short
3. Cues to play long
4. Movement off the ball
5. Type and weight of pass
Examples
Gk will pass to 4, 4 will dribble then pass to 2, 2 will pass to 10, who takes over 8s space, 10 plays to 9, 9 players to 7, 7 plays 9 into space.
Gk will take a normal goal kick and have players get compact into one side of the field.
Gk will look to play 2 or 3 rather than 4 or 5 to start the pattern
Gk will look to play 6 or 8 to start the pattern

Exercise 2: Goal kick build out to mini goal
Duration 15-20 minutes W/R 5 minutes per pattern (4-minute work 1-minute rest)
Dimensions: 3/4 Field
Objective: To help goalkeeper recognize cues to start buildout from goalkick
Gk will decide to play short or long depending on other teams set up
Coaching Point:
1. Set Up

3. Cues to play long
4. Movement off the ball
5. Type and weight of pass
Examples

Coaching Point:

Examples
GK will deal with either a cross or shot or goal kick and quickly restart play.
GK can distribute with Hands from Cross, Feet or hands from shot or Feet from Goal Kick
teams will look to play normal 11v11 after GK has distributed ball.
