20 mins
1V1, 2V2s
3 x 6 minute blocks.
Topic- Counter-Attacking and Recovery Runs
Red team will start with the ball and drive into the opposition half. Aiming to do so within 4 touches and score. Directly after they score. Blue team will drive with the ball while red player recovers to try and win possesion back.
Coaching Points.
What touch is the most important (first)
Can we take the player out of the game
Has to be done with speed.
Block 2
The same process happens with the difference being the ball being passed onto the player driving with the ball.
Coaching Point
Weight and direction of pass
First touch
Block 3
Moving into 2v2s, continuing with a pass being played. Both players (passer and reciever) will drive forwards with the ball moving to score a goal. The player who shoots at goal. No matter whether they succeded in scoring or not has to touch the goal before tracking back to aid his teammate. This creates a quick 2v1 situation before the player can transition back to create a 2v2.
Coaching points
Decision making
Speed in 2v1 situation to act upon overload created
Delay to allow other player to recover and help defend

20 mins
Possession
3x6 minute blocks.
Topic- Counter-Pressing
In this scenario it is a 4v4+3 possession drill.
Both teams will start in one half of the pitch. One team will start with ball and look to combine 10 passes to earn a point. This can be altered based on the success rate. The team in possession can use the two neutral players on the sides. If possession is lost, the team who win the ball back need to break out the line and play into the far side neutral player. The focus is on the counter-press from when the team originally in possession lose the ball.
Coaching Points
While the opposition are in their defensive shape, they will have less space between players. This will make it hard for the player on the ball to maintain possession if pressure is immediately placed on them.
Once play has been switched, speed of recovery runs to allow less time for players to keep possession.
Understand distance between players, too close will cause shape to become tight, too far and players can't effectively counter-press when possession is lost.

Alternative Possesion drill
3x6 minute blocks
Topic- Counter Pressing
Play will start with the 5 blues within the box who are in a 5v3 overload. They must hold possession for as long as possible. The 3 red players are pressing trying to win the ball and play outside the box to one of the 4 red players. When this happens the red team will be in a 7v5 and the full pitch is able to be used. As soon as the reds win the ball back and play out the box can the blues counter press to win the ball back and score in one of the 4 mini goals. A point is scored for keeping possession for 10 passes or scoring into one of the mini-goals
Coaching Points
Protect the inside of the pitch, look for one of the "4 Bs" to go and press the ball. Bad touch, Bad pass, Break in Play and Byline.
You wont always be able to commit to a full press so pick and chose your moments (4Bs)
When we press, go as a unit. Ignore the furthest player and press together.
If you lose possesion of the ball, how fast can you go and win it back
The first player on the press usually never wins the ball, its the second or third player

20 mins
Wave Game
3x6 Minute blocks
Topic-Counter Attacking/Counter Pressure Wave Game
Attack vs Defence wave game focusing on counter attacking situations.
Two teams will be setup on either half, 3 players will start the drill on either side of the mannequins/cones with the balls always being fed into the attacking team. Swap teams halfway through the drill
Block 1
Coach will start with the balls and pass into one player of the attacking team. The players are intially in a 3v2 with an opposition defender starting on a side mannequin making a recovery run by running around and through the central mannequin.
Coaching Points
Can we commit a player to create space
Use obvious offsides to create match realism
Speed of attack (link back to 1v1 & 2v2s)
If we lose the ball, react to win the ball back quickly (counter-pressure)
Block 2 & 3
Defender who makes the recovery run will now start on the far side goal. As soon as the pass is made by the coach the player can start his run.
Coaching Points
Defensive unit starts higher to create more pressure
Fewer touches when attacking with speed
Ruthless in front of goal
If we win the ball back, think forwards, how fast can we counter attack.
