Football/Soccer Session (Beginner): Turns
Description
This session helps players develop an ammunition of 'turning' moves and practice in game play to allow them to move away from opponents quickly. Set up is in a 20x20 yard area but can make larger or smaller depending on ability and size of squad.

Players move around in the area practicing 'turning' moves demonstrated by the coach.
Players perform turns in the gates.
Moves:
- Inside cut.
- Outside cut.
- Drag back.
- Flick behind.
Progression: If the move is mastered, now incorporate a change of pace after making the turn.
Coaching points:
- Correct technique.
- Practice with both feet.
- Head up.

Players form two teams. On the coaches command, the players (1v1) run through the number of gates the coach instructs. First player back through their gate wins a point for their team.
Coaching points:
- Find the closest route.
- Running form/technique.
- Encouragement from team mates.

Same as the SAQ but a ball is added.

On the coaches command the number of players instructed by the coach come out and play (1v1/2v2/3v3). The coach will feed the ball in and teams must try to score in any of the four goals. Before they can score, they must 'unlock' it by either dribbling or passing through the gate in front of the goal.
**The goal must be unlocked every time a team or player look to score in it**
Coaching points:
- React quickly (be first to ball).
- Use turns or moves to deceive opponent.
- Score as quickly as possible.

20 mins
4v4 4 goal game. Teams attack the goal of the colour of their team (coloured markers or poles positioned at the goals). When the coach shouts out "switch" or blows the whistle, teams must attack their goal on the opposite.
Coaching points:
- Be ready to react.
- Use of turns to change direction.

Ball mastery:
- Dribbling with the inside/outside/sole of the foot.
- Toe taps right-left.
- High tempo dribbling for a count down of 5 seconds.
Coaching points:
- Keep the ball under close control.
- Lots of little touches.
- Head up.
