Activity- Attacking Heading


Practice Layout.


Area size width of pitch and 35 yards.

Using eight outfield players and one goalkeeper.

Red players to throw ball up for blue players to head the ball.

Each player to have five headers each before switching over.

Mechanics to be delivered.


Eyes on the ball.

Keep on our toes.

Head ball using our forehead.

Use back and neck muscles.

Arms out for balance. 

Head middle of the ball. 

Unopposed. 


Players to keep throwing ball into air to make sure players understand the mechanics of the drill.

Add a defender in but doesnt challenge used for attacker to get their timing right.

Opposed.


Defender can know jump to win the ball.

Using keeper.

Practice Layout. 


Red players cross ball into attacking player (blue)

Attacking players to stay inside 18 yard box.

Attacking players swap after two attempts.

Yellow player is defender.

Challenges.


Can attacking player meet the incoming cross.

Get infront of the defender.

Attacker try and jump before defender to win the ball.

Target.


One point for a goal.

Two points for beating defender to the ball. 

Can players head into corners of the goal.

Regression.


If the player is struggling take away the defender and goalkeeper.

Outside player to throw ball in not cross.

Learning outcomes.


Using the mechanics of attacking headers.

Body posisition correctly.

Getting in front of the defender. 

Staying on our toes and keeping our eye on the ball at all times.
