Method: 1v1 Recovery Runs Basic
Blues attack, reds defend. Coaches plays blue in on goal, red must tackle/intercept the ball to prevent a shot at goal. if reds win the ball or the keeper catches it he transitions through the red cones back to the coach.
Progression - small time delay until the defender can enter.
Coaching Points:
Recovery Run - Immediate reaction, sprint back, head up, angle of recovery run.
Pressure - must move fast to catch the attacker and get goal side, slow down so they're not beaten, side on to show attacker towards sideline, low to make sure if the defender is able to check inside they can adjust.
Body Positioning - After making the recovery run and applying pressure the player must execute a tackle. Reds should concentrate on distance between themselves and the opponent, whilst positioning themselves between the goal and the opponent/ball.

Method: Rondo 6v4
Players keep the ball away from the attacking team to get use to the direction of passes and movements they need to make to relieve pressure on themselves and help their team mates. The practice focuses solely on the back 4 becoming comfortable playing the ball around between themselves.
Reds must get 6 passes and score by passing the ball into either of the small goals. If blues win the ball they transition by scoring into the large goals, no minimum passes.
Coaching Points:
Movement - player need to move both horizontally and vertically to create space to open passing lanes.
Pass - pace must not be too soft to risk interception, pass to the back foot to allow team mates to play out into space.

Method 8v8 Double Pivot switch game:
Play out from keeper, players must play through pivot players to attackers. One defender can join the attacking team to create 4v4. Reinforce general principles of defend small attack big.
Coaching Points:
Keeper - opening out body to recycle play when needed. Introduce dropping to the opposite side of the goal to receive and allow defenders to push higher.
Centre Backs - Wide and deep, allow angle to FB for pass, receive and open out on first touch. Bait winger.
Full Backs - Must receive on back foot, on half turn. Do not receive on outside of the foot.

Method: 9v9 build out through the 3rds
Play out from keeper, focus on controlling possession. 1 additional player can enter each zone when in attack. Progression: minimum passes in each area.
Coaching Points:
Position to Receive - CBs to open out and receive, full backs to play on half turn and receive to back foot.
6/8 Bounce Pass - introduce use of bounce pass for CB to 6/8, allow forward ball to 10. 2 & 3 can act as runners to break the line if this is played.

1v1 Defending
Method: Defending Practice 1v1
Balls start in the location 1. Players in zone 1 attack, players in zone 2 defend, players in zone 3 receive from player in zone 3. When the player in zone 2 wins the ball he must quickly transition the ball back to zone 1.
Coaching Points:
(Pressure)
Up fast - player in zone 2 must apply pressure quickly, pressure should orientate the attacker to only be able to go one way.
Slow down - Defender must slow down and correctly position himself and not be beaten easily by the defender.
Side on - Defender should orientate his body to the same side as the pressured run. Emphasis on body shape, and showing the attacker 1 way.
Get Low - Defender should get low and be ready to reorientate body as required.
