Phase 2
Agility/Speed/Quickness
Set up
10 cones in a U shape.
4-5 players per line
Players start at the right of the cones and go through different agility exercises, after they finish, they sprint 10 yards diagonally to the gate in front of them.
Patterns below:
-Two steps over each cone- laterally
-Side Shuffle through each cone- vertically
-Two feet in, two feet out forwards and backwards, one foot at a time- laterally
-Two steps over each cone, one foot at a time- vertically
Progression:
Add a server with a ball at the end of the gate, they play two passes then rotate with the server.

Phase 3
1v1 Pressing
10x15 Grid.
4 cones
Supply of balls
2 teams of 4-5 players max.
Instructions:
Play starts with attacking team in White. Whites objective is to make it across Reds line without being tagged with two hands. If they make it across its a point, the game is done and they return to their lines.
If Red can tag with two hands, they get the point.
Play 4x1 minute rounds.
Progression
Turn this into a game, turn the nets around and play a 1v1 to goal.
Action starts with one player playing a pass across to their teammate, as the ball travels, defender can press the ball. Attackers objective is too dribble across the line for a point. Defenders objective, is to not allow the attacker to build speed, take away options by forcing attacker to one side of the field. Looking for moments to win possession, if so, can you dribble across attackers line for 1 point. Play until the ball goes out of play or a goal is scored.
Game is continuous. Swap roles after 4 mins.
6x2 minute games.
Coaching Points:
- Speed of approach
- Angle of approach/curved run
- Decelerate as you approach attacker
- Distance- arms length
- Body position - side on, stay low
- Eyes on ball,
- Be patient!
-Can you threaten ball
- Front foot poke tackle when the time is right.(looking for cues to win it, heavy touch, attacker has back towards goal)
