Dribbling Jail Game
Set up:
4 cones in a 20x20 yard grid. Two cones for waiting players 10 yards back. Same set up coming back.
Procedure:
In this game, the players with the ball at their feet must attempt to dribble within the "jail" and past the two defenders. The defenders will aim to stop them, and if they do they are out of jail and replaced by the player who was stopped. Once the players dribble past the hash-line (past the cones) the player in jail must let them go, and can only defend in front of the line.
Coaches may also choose to begin the game without the ball, so that their is a physical literacy component to it. If you have 10 + players, set up two jails as a circuit where they finish one game and it guides them towards the starting cones for the other jail game.
Coaching Points:
- the right size of touch for the situation (small if a defender is near you, big if you have space to dribble)
- change of direction and change of speed are important
- positive encouragement to take risks and try their moves

Gate Game
Set Up
30 x 20 grid, two 6 yard gates on each end. One starting cone for each team at mid point of one side.
Procedure:
Attackers must run through the red gate and collect a ball before attempting to dribble past the defender and through a gate. Defenders must run through their red gate then attempt to win the ball from the attacker. If succesful, they attempt to score.
You can increase numbers to 2v2 or 3v3. If you are working with two coaches, have them control the players in line.
Coaching Points:
Vision and decision making, change of speed and direction, keep ball moving, set up defender, take risks with moves.

5v5 and Keepers:
Set Up:
1/2 field, adjust sidelines depending on age and ability.
Procedure:
Normal 5v5 set up following all laws of the game. May only dribble to advance the ball forward.
Coaching Points:
- the right size of touch for the situation (small if a defender is near you, big if you have space to dribble)
- change of direction and change of speed are important
- positive encouragement to take risks and try their moves
Progressions:
Must take on defender before team scores.
Performing move adds to score.
Remove all conditions.
Use retreat and offside line as needed.

Jail Break
Set up:
2 teams, 2 cones in line with goal post 5 yards past 18 yard line.
Procedure:
1st person in blue line takes 1 touch and shoots. Player keeps their run as coach serves in second ball in the box for a one time shot. If player makes 1-2 shots they retrieve a ball and get back in line. If player misses they go to "jail" next to team goal post. Two shots get the first person in jail out. First team to have all members in jail loses.
Coaching Points:
Instep vs laces, toe down ankle locked for laces, toe up heel down and ankle locked for inside of foot, plant foot next to ball, head steady and down on the ball, shoot for posts. Power vs Finesse.

Dribbling Relay Game
Coaches may begin with making it a simple agility, physical literacy game where the players must make their way around the cones. Try and have only groups of 3-4 players, and add more lines depending on the number in your team. We don't want lines to be more than a few players.
1. Vary surfaces, left and right foot, ball manipulation.
Coaching Points:
- using the inside and outside of your foot to control the ball
- getting low as you round the cones and change direction
- dropping your shoulder as you change directions
- keeping the ball close to your feet at all times
