Hospital Tag (15 mins)

Activity Name: Hospital Tag

Activity Description: Arrange the players in thearea with a ball. Players dribble around with their ball and at the same timethey try to tag other players. If a play is tagged they must hold that part oftheir body with one hand. If they are tagged a second time they must hold thatpart of the body with their other hand. If they are tagged a third time theymust dribble over and see the Dr in the hospital (the coach). They will begiven a set skill to do by the Dr (20 toe taps, 4 Cruyff turns, 6 juggles).Once they have done this they may return to the game and continue trying to tagother players, without having to hold any part of their body. Play for a fewminutes. At the end of the game see which player had the fewest visits to theDr in the hospital. This player is the winner.

Coaching Points:

- Dribble with laces. Use inside, outside, and bottom of foot tochange direction.

- Keep ball close.

- Look up to make sure you avoid other players.

- Change speed and direction to get away from players.

Skills Gates (15 mins)

Activity Name: Skills Gates

Activity Description: Arrange players as in the image. Each player should have a ball. Players work on various ball manipulation skills which the coach introduces - soccer boxes, toe taps, pull-push, figure 8's, etc. Coach should also introduce the following futsal specific skills....

  • Sole Delay - player puts their foot on the ball and performs the sole delay backwards then rolls the ball back to the cones.
  • Sole Delay / Scoop - player performs sole delay backwards and scoops ball back to the cones.
  • Turn & Face - player stands between the cones and rolls the ball away from them a few yards. The run after the ball, perform a turn and face skill and come back to the cones.

Variations/Progression:

  • Dribble Race - if the coach shouts dribble race the players have 30 seconds to dribble as fast as they can through as many gates as possible. At the end of the 30 seconds see who dribbled through the most gates.
  • Gate Keepers - Select 3 or 4 players who are gate keepers. These players do not have a ball and are essentially defenders. When the coach shouts 'go' the players with the futsal balls dribble around trying to go through as many gates as possible. The gate keepers run around and try to kick their balls out. If a player has their ball kicked out they go and get it and carry on dribbling through the gates.

2 v 1's - Alternating Attacks (15 mins)

Activity Name: Flying Changes 2 v 1

Description: Arrange the players into two teams and then split the players in each team into 2 or 3 groups depending on the number of players in attendance. For each team there should be one group of players who have a ball the other groups do not have a ball. Start the activity by choosing one player from one of the teams to come out and defend. The first players from the other team will come out and go 2 v 1 (or 3 v 1 depending on numbers). The attacking players attack and try to score on the goal opposite. If the one defender wins the ball they try to score on the end that the attacking players came from. Once the ball goes out the last player from the team of two who touched it stays on and now the opposite team sends on 2 (or 3 players) to attack against this one player. The rotation is repeated, whichever attacker touches the ball last before it goes out stays on as the defender.

Coaching Points

- Good communication between players (visual and verbal).

- Good technique - dribbling, quality of pass, first touch.

- Use of combinations - give and go's, parallel runs, J runs
