Topic Defending the Overload

Overview

  • Player Information and Ability U16s Welsh Academy level
  • Number of Players 14 (2GK) 2 Players coming back from injury as extra man
  • Learning Objective Delay the Attack, Leave the furthest Player

Session Design

  •  Equipment  (2 Goals,Balls,Bibs 6 for 2 teams, 2 for GK, 2 for Extra player, Flats, Cones)
  • Pitch Layout (Double-Box Size + Central Zone ,2 Extra Players)

Practice Design

Type of Practice Overloaded Wave Game

Description Start from 1v1 +2 Extra man, then once ball is gone, new player will join to the pitch and do 2v2 +2 and then 3v3,4v4+2. 

Extra man can not score but assist. If the attack takes more than 15 seconds to shoot, the ball is gone.

 Progression Wide Extra man can join to attack with their First touch drive in. 

Regression Extra Player is limited of 3 touches

Planned Interventions

  • How to delay the Attack (Body shape, How to kill opponent's speed)
  • Work Through How you can control the defence line (Leave the furthest player)
  • Motivate players' hard work

5 Corner tools

Physical

  • Session time line 1 wave done and the other team will defend. 1mins break to team talk
  • work to rest ratios 2 Wave (180sec) and 1 mins break as the practice is high intensity and explosive running.
Social

  • team meetings (1 Min Teem Talk per each wave )
  •  captains (Captain will count the Score)
  • Problem Solving Task (How can you defend the Overloads)
 Technical corner tools

  • key points (1v1, Delaying, Press back, Control the line, Body shape,)
