Description

Do not coach during tryouts. Let the activities flow and get a sense of where each player is technically and their tactical awareness (decisions). You make changes to any activity that allows it to flow better.

#1 Set up:

1.) Create an area that allows players to move freely without too little of space (this will depend on how many players show up)

2.) Each player with a ball

Activity (10-15 minutes max)- Dynamic Warm-up

1.) Have numbers 1 - 6 and each number is a specific skill ( #1 - dribble forward with pace, #2 - 1v1 move scissors, stepover and side-step, #3 - turn cruyff, pull-push, stepover, #4 - stop ball and then take over another players ball, #5 - stop ball and find someone to jump and high ten and #6 - Bumper cars - players try and hit opposing players soccer ball by a pass)

#2 Set Up

1.) Divide players into two teams

2.) Each player with a ball

3.) Divide the field into two halves

4.) Two goals

Activity

1.) Flying 1's, 2's and 3's

2.) Sequence: Player attacks, then same player defends and then is done and goes to the back of their team's line

3.) As soon as the attacking player scores or possession is lost, then the other team's new player attacks.

4.) If the defender wins the ball they do not try to attack, a new player comes onto the field with a ball and becomes the attacking player.

5.) First team to 10 goals wins

6.) Players cannot score unless they are on their attacking half (this promotes taking on the defender rather than just shooting to avoid defender)

#3 Set Up

1.) Create a field for a small-sided game - can also be on half of a big field.

2.) Create teams at random

3.) Games are 5 - 10 minutes in length

Activity

1.) 5v5, 6v6, 7v7 or 8v8 scrimmage

2.) If the ball goes out of play, have them restart play by either a throw-in or pass in

3.) If you keep teams together, award them tournament points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and zero points for a loss)

4.) Have the teams rotate and play different teams.

5.) Gk's are to be incorporated.

Final Activity

Scrimmage 11v11 (all game rules apply)
