WARM UP: FIFA 11 (10 mins)

WARM UP FIFA 11

Progression:

Work in pairs. 2 times through jog back

  • Jog straight thru 
  • Shuffle thru (face one way, face the other)
  • Skipping thru use arms
  • Open Gates, Close gates
  • Jog to first cone shuffle around each other jog forward to next cone
  • Walk pull your knee up
  • Jog to first cone, back peddle back, forward to next cone, backpaddle to closest cone repeat
  • Walk Grab leg pull back pause, kick out (quad)
  • Jog forward to cone, shuffle together , jump up shoulder charge, land on both feet repeat
  • Face your own line backpeddle thru
  • Forward to first cone, backpeddle back then forward thru
  • Side shuffle to first cone, shuffle back, turn sprint forward thru cones
  • Walk hand down extend leg back (hamstrings)
  • Lunges hands on hips add twist
  • Sprint twice thru

Rondo 8v2 (15 mins)

Objective: mental and physical activation game for the training session.

Set-up: 10x10 grid. 10 players.

Instructions:  players play 1 touch keep away.  If the defenders win the ball they drop the vests and transition quickly into the possession.  

Timing:  Play 4 minutes, stretch on their own 2 minutes, play 4 minutes then go into dynamic stretch.

Coaching Points: (1) quality of passes, (2) receiving the ball open across our body, (3) proper passing and receiving, movement to fill in spaces, fast transitions from defending to attacking and from attacking to defending.

Variations:  (1) Make it a competition. Play until a team gets a certain number of passes in a row (ex 10).  Keep score.

Tracking Runs and Awareness 1A-Progression (15 mins)

Method: Session focused on defenders being aware of opposition and tracking runs. Blues and Reds start on edge of 18yd box, and run towards goal when ball played to wide man. Ball starts with coach and is played to wide player in Red for cutbacks/crosses to attackers for them to score. Blue defenders to scan for attackers and track runs. If Blues win ball back, clear to safe zone marked with blue cones and reset. Red attackers can check their run to try to lose defender, but can only make runs in their zone between the red cones. Alternate players in after every 2 plays. 

Progression: Extra attacker added to make it 3v4+Wide man. Same rules apply except GREEN attacker can make runs into any zone

Coaching Points:

  • Blue defenders body shape open to be able see ball and opposition
  • Scanning to see opposition players/runs and space, to block passing lanes
  • Communication between defenders key e.g., 'right shoulder', or 'drop back'.
  • Tight to opposition man in the box
  • Clear to safe zone and reset quickly
  • Use stop-stand still and demo with the ball to aid defenders in correct movement patterns
  • Encourage them to analyse their actions and give feedback and debrief(open questions)
  • Blues need to be aware of Green player making blind side runs and moving between zones

SSG- Finishing Game (20 mins)

Topic: Session Theme

Principles: Carry the session theme into final game

Subprinciples: 

1. transitions

2. defending the breaking line: fast pressure on the ball, protect the ball in the middle, stay narrow and try to block.
Area size: half pitch

Targets: both team must scores in big goals

Players: 18 players, 9v9 both with GP

Time: 20 mins

 

Coaching Points: Coach in the flow if needed, try to let players make the decisions themselves
