Goal of the session is for U7 players to start to understand the basics of positions, with an emphasis on goal kicks.

Purpose: Ball work to work on turns when dribbling with the ball
Description: Pairs of two with one ball. First person dribbles out to cones, makes a turn, and passes back to partner. Turns:
Pull back
Outside of foot
Inside of foot hard cut

Purpose: Speed dribbling while keeping the ball close to feet.
Description: Coach passes ball out to player in front of the line. Player receives with inside of the foot, turns and dribbles through the gates before taking a shot on goal. Lines alternate.
Coaching Points: 1. Dribble with head up 2. Small touches to keep the ball close.
Variations: Add more gates to work on changing direction.

Purpose: Players compete to reach ball, and then work on moving to the open space to shoot.
Description: Coach passes ball out into middle of pitch, both players make chase and play 1v1. Players can go to either goal to score.
Phase 1: 1 point for scoring a goal
Phase 2: 1 point for goal, +1 additional point if player does a "pull back" and goes toward the open space.
Coaching Points: 1. Player on ball should choose the goal where they have more space to play. 2. Defender should get in-between attacker and goal.

Purpose: Scrimmage where we focus on our positions.
Set Up: Cones set up for each player's position on red and blue team.
Description: Scrimmage, but each time the ball goes out of play or a goal is scored, the first team to get back to their original positions gets the ball played to them.

Ball work (5 mins)
Purpose: Ball work to improve comfort on the ball
Description: Each player has a ball, spread out across one half the field. Dribble around the half, keeping the ball close. When coach says "freeze," everyone stops and turns to coach for ball work. Watch coach, then practice themselves for 30 seconds. Countdown 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and continue dribbling until next freeze.
