Passing warm up (15 mins)

Area:

create 4 squares 5m x 5m in the layout where there is a 5m space opposite one square but a 10m space on the other opposite square. 2 players occupy opposite sides of a square that is 5m apart.

Equipment:

Balls, cones

Objective:

Pair the players up and pass 5m.

1) Stand opposite partner 5m apart. Simply pass back and forth. lots of touches. Mix up 1 touch and 2 touch.

2) 5m passing. when partner shouts "GO!" let the ball run through your legs, turn and retreive ball. Partners pass should firm to only travel a few meters behind but not too hard that the ball is far away.

3) against the clock see how many succesful 5m passes you can achieve in 1 minute. Rest and see if you can beat your own score.

4) stand on your own line on the opposite side to your partner infront of a cone. copy coaches commands (touch your knees, touch your toes etc). When the coach shouts "Cone" grab the cone and put it on your head like a hat to win a point. Play 3 or 5 times.

Key points:

Be on your toes, light on your feet. If you need a touch make sure your touch puts the ball in the easiest place for you to strike the ball without having to adjust your body position much. Strike the ball firmly in the centre of the ball but not too hard that it makes it difficult for your team mate to control the ball.

How's your touch (15 mins)

Area:

Equipment:

Balls, cones, discs

Objective:

Set up facing the player in the opposite square 5m apart. The game is a point based game where each attempt a point is played for. The objective is to pass the ball as hard as you can with accuracy to test the touch/control of your opponent. If they misscontrol and the ball goes outside of their area then you win the point. If you execute a poor pass which doesn't go into their box then they would win the point. THe opponent will not return the ball back to you to control with the same rules applying. The ball goes back and forth like a game of tennis. alternatively instead of a point being played for, you can have the person losing the point carrying out a forefit. 5 x any excercise the opponents wishes from the coaches list. 5 x press ups, 5 x sit ups, 5 x squat jumps, 5 x burpies, 5 x jumping jacks, 5 x squat thrusts.

Progression:

Now the player will face opposite the player 10m and play against a different player but the same rules remain.
