Aim

To focus on the Technique of the jump shot

Objectives

Use warm-up to bring in movements used during the jump shot

2 Break down the parts of the jump shot into its main components slowly building it back up

Structure game around rewarding successful jump shots to push performers to attempt them more

Equipment

16 Balls, 16 Bibs (8 yellow, 8 red), Cones 20 (10 red, 10 yellow)

Warm-up

Organizational / Instructions

Set up 2 lines of cones as above

split up the group and bib them to put them into teams.

Coaching Points

Jog around area

Keep head up

add in numbers that relate to different actions

1. Left-hand touches the floor

2. right-hand touches the floor

4 Sidestep (5 each side)

Pair up into groups of 2

2 steps into a jump

none throwing arm pointing at target

Release ball just after throwing arm passes head

throw ball before you land

Progressions / Adaptations

use left hand only then use right arm only.

introduce a block they have to get over (badminton net)

introduce a small dribble before performing the skill

Line up group into 2 lines

1 line has balls, the other doesnt

Player with ball runs at passive defender

Passes ball to 2nd player

2nd player passes ball back to player 1

Proceed with jump shoot

Players switch lines after movement is done

Swap none ball line to the other side to receive ball from different direction

Makes defender less passive

Conditioned Game

Organizational / Instructions

Standard Handball rules 

Outfield players can touch the ball with any part of their body that is above the knee.

Once a player receives possession, they can pass, hold possession or shoot.

If a player holds possession, they can dribble or take three steps for up to three seconds without dribbling.

Only the goalkeeper is allowed to hold the ball in the goal area

Goalkeepers are allowed out of the goal area but must not retain possession if they are outside the goal area.

Game conditions- normal goals 1 point, jump shot goals 2 points (5 passes in a move then a jump shot goal 3 points?)

Coaching Points

3 steps between each bounce

When ball is in two hands only 3 steps max then pivoting

None contact

Crossbody arm grab

Behind the back arm grab

Forward Lunge

Touch toes (or variants)

If enough time at the end have everyone lie down with eyes closed

Focus on breathing (In for 2 seconds out for 2)

Count to 1 minute in head and sit up when you think you've reached 1 minute
