This sessions looks at 1v1 defending.
A game of football is, in it's simplest form, a simultaneous number of 1v1 situations. To win a game of football, we need to win our individual 1v1 battles. If we know the correct body shape and how to defend a 1v1 situation, we instantly become harder to beat.
This session will have a variety of 1v1 situations in different scenarios, including some 1v1 finishing.

In pairs, 1 pair per shape.
Players play for 2 minutes, 1v1 carousel with one player moving clockwise, the other moving anti-clockwise to rotate pitch shape, size and opponent.
Players alternate who serves so that each gets multiple goes at attacking and defending.
The defender will start in the middle of the pitch and serve to the attacker. If the attacker dribbles past them and gets to the other end of the pitch, they score a point. If the defender wins the ball and drives to the end of the area then they win a point. Swap roles after every point.
-------------------------------
Coaching points: Slow down on approach, but close down quickly
Body shape - What can we remember? Knees bent, watch ball, little steps, 'L' shape - force them wide as they can only go one way then.
-------------------------------
If we have an odd number of players, add a GK & a goal to one of the pitches so that points are scored by scoring a goal rather than reaching end of pitch.

Players start by dribbling a ball in the shaded area.
Coach to call out a player's name, this player will have 10 seconds to dribble out of the area and try to score.
The goalkeeper's job is to close them down and try to stop them scoring. If not shot has been taken after 10 seconds, time is up.
--------------------------
Goalkeeper to come out quickly then slow down on approach.
Keep themselves big, close off the goal that is visible
Don't dive to feet too early, wait for a heavy touch or hesitation
-------------------------
If not enough balls for the number of players, play it as per the arrival activity.

Play a SSG with the pitch divided into the above zones.
Players can only go inside their zones but will always be in either a 1v1, 2v2 or 1v1+GK situation.
15 minutes, play for 5x 3minute sections before switching areas.
Like before, one team moves clockwise whilst the other goes anti-clockwise to let players face different players.
Attackers/defenders become wingers, wingers become central midfielders and central midfielders become attackers/defenders.

Arrival Activity (10 mins)
In pairs, one player from each pair dribbles the ball around the grid with their partner chasing them trying to win it off them. Once they've won it back, the roles are reversed.
Change partners every minute or two to get different pairings and different challenges that come with this.
