1 v 1 Attacking
Set Up:
* 1 Defender, 1 Attacker
* 1 Ball
* 28 x 18 yard area
Instructions:
* The player with the ball dribbles / runs to goal.
* The defender recovers and tries to win the ball - if so they attack the goal.
Objectives:
* attack quickly and use skill to beat the defender and finish past the GK.
* If NO GK mark out a 5x18 yard 'finishing' area/zone
Challenges:
* Can the attacker perform a skill to beat the defender to score
* what different ways can the attacker unbalance the defender
* If the defender is recovering quickly can the attacker use thier body to keep the ball or gain an advantage
* Can the attacker manipulate the ball to where they want it
Futher Challenges:
* Can you beat the player twice
* use your weaker foot
* put the defenders start gate nearer the goal
(Changes sides for exposure of atacking from different sides and angles)

PRACTICE ORGANISATION:
Area (outer square) 25 x 25 yards. Inner square, 8x8 yards.
11 Players, 3 groups of 3 attackers plus two defenders in internal square. One ball per group.
Practice starts: 2 players on outside of square, one with ball, one player on inside of square too.
Defenders ocupy inner square.
In each group, A passes to B who is inside the square. B dribbles or runs the ball across and out of the inner square and passes to C, who is outside the large square
B dribbles or runs the ball across and out of inner square and passes to C outside of square. B leaves playing area.
A now moves into square and receives pass from C.
All groups work at same tie to outnumber Ds
DETAIL:
Adjust size according to age/ability
Sequence: pass in and go in to receive, receive and drible or run, pass out and go out of square
Ball in hands first to establish pattern
PROGRESSION:
Ds to pass out or move from the square
Allow players receiving on outside to drive in and through the inner square
If players see the space, allow for more random patterning of movement between the 3 players
KEY POINTS:
Emphasis on need to recognise the space, time and position of Ds
Body position to receive
Changes in speed and direction
Awareness of other game events, use of inventive touches, numbr of touches and disguise

Recognising Space - Running With the Ball
Set Up:
* 25 x 35 yard area.
* Split into 3 rds.
* 2 defenders in the middle 3rd.
* 1 ball for each attacking player
Instructions:
* Players dribble ball in thier own third
* Players wait to see an opportunity to make it through the defenders
Scoring:
* 2 points for every succesful penetration past the defenders in the central zone to the other side.
* If defender wins the ball they take the place of the attacker
* first to 20 points wins
Challenges:
* What can you try that tricks a defender 1v1 when running with the ball / dribbling?
* Can you recognise when and where to attack at speed?
Progression:
* Divide the pitch into 5 to create 2 defensive zones every other area.
* Add more defenders

Recognising space - running with the ball.
Set Up:
* 30 x 40 area
* divided into 3rd's
Scoring:
* 1 point per goal
* 2 points for running with the ball / dribble through (or exiting) the wide areas
* 5 points for running wih the ball through (or exiting) the central area.
Challenges:
* How might you create space for yourself so you can recieve and run with the ball?
* How might you create space for others so they can run with the ball?

Free Play Ball Manipulation Skills
Set up:
* 30 x 30 yard area
* Each player with a ball
Instructions:
* Players perform a ball manipulation skill
* Either players perform a skill and break into a new space then continue and repeat
or players perform skill and upon coaches call 'break!' players accelrate into a new space and continue skill.
* To vary intensity, players may be challenged to try new ways of getting and keeping the ball off the floor, demonstarted by the coach or players.
* A triggerman is designated by the coach secretly from players to perform a skill, players must then copy who is doing something different to the others.
