Working on defensive shape and organization. (25 min.)
4 defenders vs 5 attackers
Attackers always start with the ball.
Yellow line indicates where the defensive line should start. The line also works as offside.
If defenders win the ball, they must possess and connect 3 passes before finding the coach located near the ball pit.
Coaching Points:
1. Communication - especially CB's
2. Pressure/Support - Pressure on the ball whenever possible, teammates to balance the space behind (tuck-in)
3. Screen/Cover - Screen the next pass (2nd/3rd defender), cover for pressing player
4. Balance - Maintain balance at all times (slide, shift, tuck-in, drop, step)

Final SSG
6v6 + GK (incorporate as many players as possible).
Open Play
Coaching Points:
1. Read the tactical cues of when to step and when to drop as a unit: Is the pressure, can we get pressure, or do we need to protect the goal and make play predicatable?
2. Ball side at all times, close the line and force the ball into to cover.
3. CBs and CM's need to communicate, provide direction, while also protecting the space in behind.
4. Pressure/Support - Pressure on the ball whenever possible, teammates to balance the space behind (tuck-in)
5. Screen/Cover - Screen the next pass (2nd/3rd defender), cover for pressing player
6. Balance - Maintain balance at all times (slide, shift, tuck-in, drop, step)

Warm-Up (15 mins)
4 v 2 Pressure Cover: 12 x 8 yards (15 min.)
- Attackers have 2-touch max and are trying to split defenders
- Defenders work for 90 seconds then we rotate
Splits = 3 pts
Pass down the line = 1 pt
Coaching Points:
- Communication is key
- Mental focus and work rate come first
- Technique to close down: Take away line, close hard, atheltic posture, low to the ground, short steps last 3 yards, body position to force ball to covering defender
- Technique to drop and cover: First step backwards to give depth, then cross step for speed, open body position
- Intelligence to drop and regroup: If you get beat once, limit the damage. No mental breaks!
