Defensive Corner: Zonal Marking
Set-up:
If we play with a Back 4.
- Outside backs (#2 & 3) on the inside of post on the goal line but facing the field.
- Two center backs and holding mid (#4, 5, 6) are zonal across the six yard box. Covering the near and far post zonal players are one yard inside the post.
- The two other Center mids (8 & 10). One lines up in the near post area and the other just inside the Penalty spot area.
- #7, 9, & 11 stay high and wide.
If we player with a Back 3.
- Outside mids / Wing Backs are on the inside of post on the goal line but facing the field.
- Back three are zonal across the six yard box. Covering the near and far post zonal players are one yard inside the post.
****What happends if they send two short on the corner flag? The player in the near post area (#8) and the Near post player #2 goes out to defend it.
*What happends if the other team doesn't leave 3 or 4 players. Drop one or two of the three forwards (7 & 11) next to the #10.
Triple A
Alert: Stay alert and ready
Anticipate: Read the play before it happens, can you sense danger early, proactive in communication, players need to drop w/ crossover run so they can see the ball but also run back if it goes over the head.
Attitude: Aggressive mentality, "we are getting this ball out", "no one is beating me to this ball", No one lets down until ball is cleared.

I. Overlap with Options: (no signal)
Two players on corner kick. Play and overlap. Person has option to dribble through and cross or play the overlapper. If overlapper gets ball they have opportunity to cross ball in, shoot or play top of the box for a shot.
One player starts on keeper but will either run into #1, 2, or 3 space.
The other runners talk among themselves and figure out what numbered area they are running into (1,2,3,4,5, or 6).
If there's a delay in the delivery, do you stay in your area?
NO!! RECYCLE YOUR RUNS!!!
*This is first option every time if there's is only one player coming out to defend. We will take 2v1's everytime to get the best chance of creating a goal scoring opportunity.
Coaching Points: The two players on the corner flag need to be close to each other. Why?
Always leave an extra player back. May have to pull either the 5 or 6 numbered area player to have an extra player back.
If we lose possession on the corner? What do we do?
Win it back in 6 seconds, if ball is played forward, need to double down and sprint back towards our goal.
II. Direct Corner (two hands up)
Coaching Points:
RECYCLE, Change of speed, and arrive on time!

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Two Hands Up Direct Corner
Players get together to figure out which numbered area they are running into.
Leave two players out on corner so that they keep two defensive players out of box.
Leave late, run quickly to arrive on time.
