By Focusing on: Player Tasks (General / Position-Specific)
- Can the players receive the ball facing in the direction they intend to play.
- The #7 & #11 to hold wide positions and stretch the opposition as much as possible.
- The #2 & #5 to offer support if forward progress is blocked and to provide an overlap opportunity.
- #9 & #10 to find space between the defenders and present for a pass
Football Sprint following Passing Practice: 10x20m @ 100% 20sec rest.
Key Player Actions required to achieve tasks and objective:
Positioning / Movement off the Ball
Body shape / Angle to the ball
Create space

Explanation
16 Players in total
6 v 6 on the inside grid (Plus 2 neutrals in the wide areas who play for the team in possession).
2 x bouncers at top and bottom of grid.
Ball is played into the middle channel. Once in the midfield the ball is played into the wide channel as early as possible (when the pass is on).
Ball MUST be played into a wide area before ball is played into opposite bouncer to score a goal.
Only 1 defender can go into the wide channel to defend and ONLY once the ball is played into channel.
Once a goal is scored or the ball or possession is turned over the opposite team attack. Ball must be played back to the bouncer to commence play.
No direct passes from wide channels into bouncers or from bouncer to bouncer.
Team Task:
Try and move the ball as quickly as possible from one bouncer to the other using the wide channels.
Player Tasks/Actions:
- #4 & #8 look to move the ball into a wide channel quickly. Don't force it, the pass must be on.
- Neutrals A & B to try and create a 2v1 situation in the wide channel
- #2 & #5 try to create an overlap with the wide neutral players #A or #B
- Attacking players to find space between the defenders to collect pass / cross from wide channel
Cues (To assist Perception, Decision, Execution):
- First touch with open body to direction of pass / movement
- Scan for passing options before the ball arrivesat feet
- High ball speed

Explanation
A half pitch game
16 Players
8 x BP & 8 x BPO incl Goal Keeper
Players must return to shape on each restart.
Play is to restart with coach passing to #6 or #8

Team Task:
Try and move the ball as quickly as possible from the middle into wide positions and create goal scoring opportunities for the #9 & #10
Player Tasks/Actions:
- The #7 & #11 to hold wide positions to stretch the defensive lines and create space in the middle of the field. Make the pitch as large as possible.
- Switch play between the #7 & #11 quickly with high ball speed, minimum passes.
- #9 & #10 to find space between the two defensive lines and present for a pass.
- #2 & #5 to push forward and look to link up with #7 & #11 for 2v1 overlap opportunities.
- Can #6 & #8 position themselves so that only one pass is required to switch play

Explanation
Set up two stations mid way up a half pitch. Use cones or mannequins.
Set up cones in the centre circle and just outside the 6 yard box.
Divide remaining players evenly on each side.
#1 plays pass out to station #2 and commences overlapping run outside station #2.
Player checks inside from station, moves inside and plays pass to overlapping player.
Overlapping player plays pass into waiting player #3 who performs the same move with player at station #4.
1st Progression
Players on stations #2 & #4 must now try and receive / take 1st touch facing forward before dragging ball inside to play the pass. This is to enforce game habits of improving options of whether to play ball straight into overlapping player or to drag the ball inside.
2nd Progression
After players on stations #2 & #4 drag the ball inside they will now play the ball directly into the next player on stations #1 & #3 (effectively a striker) who will bounce the ball back into the overlapping player.
Gradually increase Intensity by:
- Sprinting between stations
Perception (Seeing/Hearing)
- Where is the next ball coming from?
Decision (Recognition/Anticipation/Options/Choices):
- Where is the next passing option?
Execution (Timing/Speed/Quality/Clarity):
- Body shape / position
- Ball speed
