Set up:
- On the 7v7 field use an area the width of the box and approximately 20 yards in length, this is the shaded blue are in the diagram. The length should be from the goal line to the build out line.
- Place two gates in the wide channel as shown in the diagram.
- Team playing out from the back has 3 players (goalkeeper and 2 center backs). Pressing team only has 1 player (forward).
- Each play starts with a goal kick. The center backs should be either side of the goalkeeper but close enough to make the initial pass easy.
- Use the build out line as the marker for the forward from the opposition team; they must stay behind the build out line until the ball is played. (Build out lines is the red dotted line between midfield and the top of the box).
- Team building out from the goal kick scores by passing into either wide gate that represents a wide player.
- Opposition scores by winning the ball back and scoring in the goal.
- Rotate players so that all players get a chance to practice playing out from the goal kick.
Coaching Points:
- Receive ball across body to give yourself the ability to see more of the field
- Center backs should look to play wide away from the defender
- Dribble forward if you have time and space to make the pass out wide easier

Set up:
- Use half of the 7v7 field. Have a large goal on one end-line and and three gates approximately five yards wide on the halfway line.
- The team of 6 players (red in diagram) defends the large goal and scores by dribbling or passing through either of the three gates.
- The team of 3 (blue in diagram) tries to win the ball and score on goal.
- Use the build out line to make sure the defending team of 3 must stay behind until the ball is played. (Build out lines is the red dotted line between midfield and the top of the box).
- Ball always starts with the goalkeeper. Rotate players so that all players get a chance a play out from the back with the goalkeeper.
- Progression: Team of 6 is now is only allowed to dribble through the wide gates but can still pass through the gate in the middle.
Coaching Points/Guided Discovery:
- Receive ball across body to give yourself the ability to see more of the field
- Where should you pass the ball to be able to move forward? Away from the defenders
- How can you help your teammate when he/she has the ball? Get into space to make the field bigger
- How do you know where the defenders are? Looking up when I have the ball.
- How do you know where the space is? Looking around when my teammate has the ball
- What can you do once you find an opening? Pass through it or dribble
- Is it ok for the center back to dribble before passing? Yes. You should dribble if there is space in front of you but pass ball before the defenders get too close to steal it
