Description

The objective of this activity is to get the goalkeeper ready for reaction times when the defender or himself make a save and the ball stays near to be strike again.

SHORT RANGE DIVING AND FAR POST DIVING

ORGANIZATION/EQUIPMENT NEEDS

Set up a goal size accordingly to the game model goalkeeper

4 Poles

2 Manequins

Soccer balls

Set up the 4 poles 5 to 6 yards apart, preferable out of the goal mouth. 2 GRIDS

1 GK at each of those Poles, with 2 servers at about 5 yards from them.

Soccer balls available for more repetitions

DESCRIPTION PHASE 1

GRID A

2 POLES set at 5 to 6 yards apart, 1 server, 1 goalkeeper strting behind the pole L or R.

the trigger will be the server body language, as soon he/she puts their heads down, the GK should be set to step and dive with the arms outstreched through the ball and diagonal through the opposite pole. (5 reps at each side)

GRID B

Same as above, but here the GK stands up behind the poles, dive forward also with their arms outstreched through the ball diagonal to the opposite pole.(5 reps at each side)

The GKs will switch grids upon complete theirs sequences.

COACHING POINTS

At, first practice with one OUTSTRECH ARM, to tget the body in a straight line

Shoulders should be always in front of the knees and feet, to prevent rebounds

When the GK is at standing position, make sure the body weight is forward.

SHORT SAVES WITH REACTION TIME L/R

ORGANIZATION/EQUIPMENT NEED

Full sized goal appropriate for the game model age group

4 poles1 manequin

2 servers

DESCRIPTION

Set up two poles at 2 to 3 yards apart, or at the goalkeeper legs open width.

Set up the other 2 poles accordingly to the size of the goal, line up the pole with the L/R goal posts.

Server stays about 5 yards away.

The GK will initiate by standing in between the short range pole.

The server or the coach serve the ball with some pace on it, to the wide range pole, forcing the GK to step and reach for it with the outstreach arms to save.

As soon he saves, another ball will be playing at the opposite side, with the GK reacting each time and step and diving , also with the arms outstreched to save

PROGRESSIONS

The server can decide on wich side to serve the ball (1)

The GK will stand with his back torwards the server or the coach, and wait for the call "NOW", so the GK can turn and he server or the coach serve the ball to either side.

COACHING POINTS

The first steps must be sideways (diagonal) not forward,

Start in a low position

Move the arms closest to the ball first, to close the gap created under the body

First think about to STOP the ball

OVER THE HURDLE AND SAVE

ORGANIZATON/EQUIPMENT NEEDS

Full size goal accordingly to the game model age group

1 pole and 1 hurdle,(preferable 12 inches high)

Soccer balls

1 manequin

DESCRIPTION

Set up the hurdle close to the middle of the goal line (about 2 to 3 feet away from the post) as the diagram above

Set up 1 pole diagonal from the hurdle, about 5 yards away from the hurdle.

The GK starting in the middle between the hurdle and the pole, behind the manequin, and have 1 ball at his/her hands.

The Gk will roll the ball to the server or coach, the server or the coach will pass the ball to the nearest post, forcing the GK to react by jump over the hurdle and making the save at the near post.

As he/she makes the save, he/he will roll the ball back to the coach or server, that them will play the ball at the far pole, so the GK will repeat the jump over the hurdle and save the ball at the opposite side. (5 reps at each side) than rotate the GKs.

PROGRESSION

The GK will jump three consecutive time over the hurdle, instead of once, prior to the server or coach serve the ball.

COACHING POINTS

Start close to the goal line

Try to get in front of the post always, always step diagonaly to the post or pole after the hurdle jump

TWO REACTION TIME SAVES IN QUICK MOTION

ORGANIZATION/EQUIPMENT NEEDS

4 poles

soccer balls

3 GKs maximun

DESCRIPTION

The GK starting in the middle of the goal, and starting by rolling the ball to the coach, and immediately cover the near post, as soon the GK cover the near post, the coach will pass the ball to the next pole, forcing the GK to step (Power step) and dive for the save.

As soon he catchs the ball, the second GK serve another ball to the coach that will pass the ball to the next pole further, forcing the GK to immediaely react to next shot and save.

(3 reps and rotate the GK)

Upon completion on this side, repeat again at the opposite side.

COACHING POINTS

The Gk starting in an open position

After rolling the ball, quick move to cover the near post.

use a low open position as the GK arrived to the near post, so the hands are close to the ground

Keep eyes fixed on the ball
