Passing Pattern
- Focus around multi directional passing and moving.
- RB to LCB, LCB to CDM, CDM to RCB, RCB to LB
- Begin with players completing a burpee upon passing the ball, then following their pass.
- When following the pass, first touch to be taken out of the players feet and driven towards the next player.
- Continuous use of high tempo and game realism.

DYNAMIC WARM UP PASSING PATTERNS
ORGANISATION
- 7 poles, or manequins, or tall cones, balls
- 14 players ( two per manequins)
DESCRIPTION
- Players passing and follow their passes, open to receive each pass.
COACHING POINTS
- Speed of play and switch, control your first touch, so easy to play next pass, first touch will set you up for the next play
- Body shape to receive, minimum two touches.
Weight of the pass
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Set up- Multi Directional Game (MDG)
- Pitch to be marked 20 x 20 or 25 x 25 depending on age group, using the centre of the pitch to create realism as a central midfield possession game.
- Defending team has 2 players (White)
- Attacking team has 3 players (Orange)
2 feeders (Bibs)
Equipment
16 cones
7 players
Bibs- 2 sets (5 attackers and 2 defenders)
8+ balls
Objective
- The defending team (whites) need to work as a unit to deny attacking movement, restrict space and time and succeed in winning the ball.
- To deal with the potential of a 2 v 1 overload.
- If possesion is won then the defenders can score in any of the four goals.
Key coaching points
Compactness
Distance between players no more than 8 yards
Communication
Movement as a unit
Body position (Show inside or force back)
Restrict time on the ball for the attackers.
Disciplined out of possession
When to press and type of press
Progression
Defenders- Once the ball is regained, defenders make 3 passes before a goal
Attackers- Must use the number 10. All 3 players to have a touch to increase speed of play and switiching play.

Crossing Exercise
- Players to immediately pass the ball wide to either orange or white
- Make a run into the box, (2 teams centrally) 1 team will be defending with the other attacking to create game realism
- If orange left winger recieves, the orange right winger must enter as an attacker etc
- Continuous exercise for 10-15 minutes. Focus on different styles of crossing.
- Drilled, lofted back post, cut back, early cross

4v4 +2 players
- Attackers begin with players in the end zone, players can not pass the line marked 25 yards out, acting as CMs.
- Transition when defenders win the ball, midfielders must retreat and wait in the area to recieve the ball, showing centrally and in wide positions as an option.
- 15 minute match, swap 8 players in the middle with outer players/ teams every 5 minutes.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organisation
- Pitch size is 2 x 18 yard boxes. Defenders can defend a lead, defend against a time limit, defend against a number of turns.
- Once a team goes 2 goals ahead, they must keep the ball for a timed period before they can score again.
Objective
- Orange team attacks the big goal, white team defends and looks to score in small goals.
Observation
In possession
- Look for width (play around to create 1v1)
- Forward passing and forward running (however, don't force the issue as focused on last week in training)
- Creativity, unpredictability, underlap/ overlap/ switch of play.
Out of Possession
- Delay - stop forward passes and penetration
- Deny - block shots and crosses through a high press
- Compact distances between the lines (horizontal and vertical) - therefore do not allow players to play 'through the thirds' which means retrieving the ball between the midfielder and defender (bypassing the midfield)
