Organization:
As above
Instructions:
Play starts 3v3+goalie. When a player shoots (whether he misses or scores) he must run and touch the goal. As he is doing that the opposing 3 runs off the field and 3 new players behind them come and play 3v2+recovering player.
Coaching Points:
1. Retreating Defenders: quick change of mentality, recognition of who is 1st/2nd defender, communication
2. 1st defender: cut off direct route to goal / shooting lane, take shortest possible distance, sprint in straight line, apply immediate pressure, angle of approach to create a 2v2 situation, delay vs. tackle (visual cues for tackle: bad touch, slow pass)
3. 2nd defender: angle/distance in cover to cut off penetrating pass
4. Recovering defender: speed/angle of recovery run, choice of double team vs. cover/balance
Progressions:
