This session is intended to improve our ability to press a team when THEY have the ball in Phase 1. The focus is on pressing their build-up.

Objective: improve speed of transition from when WE have the ball to when THEY have the ball.
Set-Up: Play 8v2 rondo. 10x10 grid. Players are in partners. Each set of partners wears a different color vest. When the player or their partner lose the ball both must go into the middle and try to press and win the ball back right away.
Coaching Points: (1) immediate transition; (2) communicate regarding the pressure on the ball; (3) intensity in defending.

Objective: improve pressing skills.
Organization: 10x10 grid with mannequins at each end.
Instructions: players press the person across from them while ball is traveling.
Variations: (1) Players pass right and go left; (2) go either way.
Key Coaching Points:
1. Pressure while the ball is traveling;
2. Anticipate where you will need to pressure.

Objective: improve our ability to press in WeP1 in a 1433.
Organization: 1/2 field. Big goal + 2 small counter goals placed 5 yards outside of center circle on either side. Also split the field in half with dots.
Instructions: ball starts with a goal kick. The Pressing team must organize defensively based on coaching tactics. If pressing team wins the ball they counter attack right away.
Variations: (1) whatever side the ball goes out ONLY the goal in the opposite side is live, (2) Have the pressing team start with the ball and they have 5 seconds to score. (3) Have midfielder on build-up team start with the ball but they have to go back to goalkeeper first, (4) switch formations of attacking team, (5) switch set-up of defending team.
Coaching Points: (1) Force the play wide, (2) 7/11 flex off to pressure the outside back, (3) flip the midfield triangle if needed, (4) weak side forward needs to take away closest 3/4
